Overview



We are seeking a full-time Senior DevOps Engineer for Garmin's Boulder, CO location. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting the deployment of software infrastructure, automation, CI/CD and AWS across the Garmin Pay ecosystem. Garmin Pay is a digital wallet designed for people who are always on the move.

Essential Functions

  • Serves in a leadership capacity as an individual contributor supporting cloud infrastructure in AWS including EC2, EKS, networking, and storage components
  • May serve as a Lead Software Engineer for complex DevOps projects supporting new technology or improving capability/performance of existing functionality
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitLab and GitHub to enable reliable, automated deployments
  • Manage and optimize Kubernetes workloads, including deployments, scaling, and resource utilization
  • Architect and design cloud native solutions and apply them in our environments.
  • Design and implement automation tools using Python, Java, Bash, and Go.
  • Provide recommendations to application development teams to improve system performance, reliability, and deployment practices
  • Enforce IaC principles in all our software
  • Serve as an expert in incident response, root cause analysis, and postmortem processes
  • Continuously improve system reliability, availability, and operational efficiency
  • Own relationships with third party service providers to meet certificate rotation requirements, improve security posture, etc.
  • Participates in project leadership and/or program planning including providing technical input to product development plans and concept documents
  • Makes substantial contributions toward determination of project goal/objective feasibility and applies good judgment in setting schedules/risk taking
  • Mentors and provides guidance to less experienced Software Engineers (1 & 2)
  • Contributes to advanced technical research on new technologies
  • Offers process improvement suggestions and authors new procedures as appropriate
  • Provides reliable solutions to a wide range of difficult problems using sound problem solving techniques
  • Supports working hours as part of a rotating schedule to provide on call support of Garmin’s 24/7 operations

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Math, Physics or related field AND a minimum of 5 years relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
  • Demonstrated proficiency with designing well architected software systems and modules that support new technology or improve capability/performance of existing functionality
  • Demonstrated competence with researching fundamental problems and implementing appropriate solutions
  • Demonstrated ability to serve as a lead DevOps engineer for a complex project
  • Ability to decompose functional requirements into well-defined tasks while balancing quality, quantity, and complexity in work output
  • Demonstrated capability to offer peer technical assessments in areas of expertise, new technologies and software designs
  • Strong proficiency in operating production workloads in Kubernetes
  • Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Must be positive, detail oriented, organized, team oriented and a driven problem solver, multi-tasker, and self-starter with the ability to prioritize and lead in a fast paced, deadline-driven environment

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with Cloudflare or similar CDN/WAF platforms
  • Deep knowledge of security best practices in cloud environments
  • Experience with autoscaling, high availability, and fault-tolerant system design
  • Deep experience with Public Cloud Providers (e.g. AWS)
  • Exposure to service mesh technologies (e.g., Istio)
  • Experience with GitOps workflows and tools (e.g., ArgoCD)
  • Deep knowledge of PKI and SSL/TLS certificate management
  • Experience with PCI compliance standards
  • Experience managing and configuring Linux-based servers and infrastructure
