We are seeking a full-time VMWare Specialist at Garmin's U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. In this role, you will be responsible for the implementation, maintenance, and operations of Garmin’s cloud services and will be part of the team that supports systems and automation administration for the container platform and its associated development tools ecosystem.
Essential Functions
- Designs and develops complex, integrated solutions to meet business requirements or enhance performance
- Measures feasibility of various approaches and makes recommendations and foresees risks and communicates and mitigates those before problems arise
- Continuously develops technical subject matter expertise on established and emerging storage, server, load balancer, and open source systems and other virtualization and cloud technologies
- Communicates effectively regarding system operations and environment changes and communicates technology effectively to non-technical associates and management
- Adheres to SOX, PCI, and other regulatory requirements as dictated
- Demonstrates an understanding of Garmin’s Change Control process and upholds the importance of compliance
- Understands and avoids capacity, redundancy, and health constraints of server, storage, load balancer, and other open source systems
- Ensures that all security requirements are met or exceeded
- Demonstrates understanding of business impacts of issues and how they relate to IT owned solutions
- Shares knowledge and actively mentors less experienced IT Administrators (Administrator 1 & 2)
- Performs and plans major version upgrades
- Designs and implements effective monitoring of enterprise systems and tunes systems using experience and deep knowledge of area
- Documents technical designs and procedures for team library
- Plans and manages technical projects involving other teams and recognizes and understands technology impacts within the business
- Contributes to technical research on new technologies, processes or procedures and provides technical input to solution development plans and concept documents
- Provides 24x7 on-call support
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems or related field AND a minimum of 2 years relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
- Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
- VMWare
- Ability to author and implement basic scripting and coding to automate repeatable tasks
- Demonstrates ability to solve moderately complex technical problems independently, with experience in successful implementation of technology solutions
- Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Consistently demonstrates quality and effectiveness in work documentation and organization
- Experience with designing and deploying VMWare vSphere infrastructure
- Experience being responsible for the deployment and operation of VMWare ESXi hosts and vCenter infrastructure
- Linux Administration and openstack skills are a plus
