We are seeking a full-time Technical Lead Mechanical Engineer on our Fitness product team at Garmin's U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. In this role, you will be responsible for serving as a key technical contributor in major product development or mechanical solutions for significant new applications of known technology. Essential Functions
- Serves as a key contributor in the review of CAD assemblies for technical feasibility and applying experience to risky design aspects of product development
- Explores new technologies, features and functions, understand and outline the associated challenges and risks
- Utilizes advanced testing capabilities and knowledge of materials to customize existing or develop new test methods to substantiate unverified aspects of product designs
- Interprets industry and Garmin product qualification tests and their relevance and impact on product design, sharing knowledge with mechanical design team members
- Completes estimates on complex and risky mechanical designs including tooling, part cost and design time
- Negotiates processes, materials and design feasibility with factory and vendors
- Provides significant contribution to design reviews across multiple product types, offers process improvements, authors new procedures, and demonstrates broad understanding of Garmin’s business model including operations, production, sales and marketing
- May lead major explorations or product development project consisting of multiple modules or sub-projects
- Overseas travel as required
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering AND a minimum of 9 years relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Demonstrated knowledge and capability to use CAD software for completing complex mechanical designs (Solidworks or Onshape preferred)
- Demonstrated strong and effective verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
- Electronic packaging design experience
- Electro-mechanical design experience
- Interest and passion for outdoor and/or Fitness activities
- Experience using SolidWorks and/or Onshape
