We are seeking a full-time Senior Mechanical Engineer at Garmin's U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. In this role, you will be responsible for providing advanced engineering skills and project planning for mechanical or electromechanical solutions or systems. In this role, you will be responsible for developing moderately complex mechanical solutions, testing and validating, completing technology explorations and/or delivering to mass production within our Marine product line (including fish finders, chart plotters, sonars, trolling motors, and more). We are seeking a full-time Senior Mechanical Engineer at Garmin's U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. In this role, you will be responsible for developing moderately complex mechanical solutions, testing and validating, completing technology explorations and/or delivering to mass production within our Marine product line (including fish finders, chart plotters, sonars, trolling motors, and more). Essential Functions
- Able to complete the most difficult tasks as a Master CAD-user including the completion of complex mechanical designs
- Knowledge of injection molding, die casting, sheet metal stamping, machining, material requirements, material performance, material limitations, etc.
- Specify test plans, mock up and test complex mechanical systems with complex performance requirements to validate and verify compliance with design requirements
- Manage basic tradeoffs, determine risk mitigation plans, determine project goal/objective feasibility, provide technical input to product development plans/concept documents, and drive process vendors to evaluate complex mechanical designs and understand risk
- Lead explorations of new technologies and make estimates on moderately complex mechanical designs including: tooling, part cost, and design time
- Knowledge of Industry and Garmin product qualification tests (environmental and others)
- Provide reliable solutions to a wide range of difficult problems using sound problem solving techniques and offer process improvements and author new procedures
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering AND a minimum of 5 years relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
- Demonstrated knowledge and capability to use CAD software for completing complex mechanical designs
- Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
- Experience using SolidWorks or OnShape
- Electronic packaging design experience
- Interest in boating, diving, fishing and being on the water
