Overview
We are seeking a full-time Human Factors Design Engineer 1 at Garmin’s U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. In this role, you will be responsible for assisting in the development and design of superior aviation products by helping to design intuitive user interfaces and controls. This role is also responsible for understanding, ideating, and creating compelling, well-crafted user experiences for a highly diverse range of Garmin products.

We are seeking a full-time Human Factors Design Engineer 1 at Garmin’s U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. In this role, you will be responsible for assisting in the development and design of superior aviation products by helping to design intuitive user interfaces and controls. This role is also responsible for understanding, ideating, and creating compelling, well-crafted user experiences for a highly diverse range of Garmin products.
Essential Functions
- Research, design, and prototype user experiences for new features and products in a timely and organized manner
- Communicate research and designs using mockups, story boarding, visual presentations and writing behavioral documentation
- Produce creative, simple and highly usable solutions to optimize human performance and minimize error while meeting the highest standards for safety
- Contribute to creation and definition of product roadmaps
- Remain current on research and design trends, methods, techniques, and software
- Moderate, observe, and take detailed notes during usability testing sessions
- Bachelor's Degree in Interactive Design, Human Factors, Visual Design, Aviation or a related field
- Excellent academics (cumulative GPA 3.0 or greater) with the demonstrated ability to apply learned knowledge
- Proficiency and exceptional skills in creating research, flows and prototypes using tools such as Figma or Sketch
- Demonstrates understanding and knowledge of good user interface design (consistency, simplicity, and usability)
- Demonstrates strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA 3.5 or greater) with the demonstrated ability to apply learned knowledge
- Working knowledge of aviation, avionics, and applicable FAA regulations
- Familiarity with Garmin aviation products
- Pilot’s Certificate with an Instrument Rating
