Overview
We are seeking a full-time Technical Lead Design Engineer at Tulsa, OK location. In this role, you will be responsible for being a key technical contributor and/or Project Engineer in a major product development project or electrical design for significant new applications of known technology in support of Marine products.
Essential Functions
- Provide key technical contributions in the design and review of complex circuit design and PCB layout for designs that are new to Garmin which may be analog, digital, or RF
- Design system architectures consisting of one or more PCB’s or boxes
- May serve as Project Engineer for complex designs used in new product functions and may lead major research or product development project consisting of multiple modules or sub-projects
- Provide significant contribution to design reviews across multiple product types
- Make new technology and/or processor selection on new projects with broadly defined requirements
- Evaluate new technologies, features and functions and offer process improvement suggestions and author new procedures as appropriate
- Mentor and provide guidance to less experienced design engineers (Design Engineer 1, 2 & Senior Design Engineers)
- Demonstrate broad understanding of Garmin’s business model, including operations, production, sales and marketing
- Define general approaches and specific solutions to technical problems considered state of the art and apply extensive technical expertise/analysis to all assigned projects
- Complete broadly defined complex tasks including taking conceptual ideas and putting them to practice and regularly demonstrate creativity/ingenuity to develop reliable solutions to complex problems
- Integrate, use, and provide feedback on products in development when possible as part of normal job responsibilities
- Participate in recruiting activities as assigned
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering or related field AND a minimum of 9 years relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
- Demonstrates ability to develop and review complex analog, digital, and/or RF circuit designs including simulations, schematics, PCB layout and evaluation
- Must possess the ability to design system architectures consisting of one or more PCB’s or boxes
- Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
Desired Qualifications
- Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5)
- Extensive circuit design experience for consumer products
