Overview
Garmin International seeks Systems Architect 1 (Olathe, KS; Multiple Positions): Provides leadership in project execution and design of new or existing systems or applications across multiple functional, system, or module areas.
Essential Functions
- Development and design of system architecture for new and existing solutions.
- Analyze and understand system performance to identify existing limitations and bottlenecks.
- Lead system performance analysis by evaluating trends, metrics, and real-time usage data to diagnose bottlenecks and recommend optimizations.
- Understand future business growth needs and assess their impact and associated risks to the system.
- Evaluate project or release requirements to assess their impact and identify potential risks to the system.
- Develop and deliver cost-efficient architecture recommendations, including infrastructure, software, and configuration adjustments, to ensure system stability, scalability, and high-quality user performance aligned with business growth objectives.
- Research and identify new technologies to improve system performance and availability.
- Leads or assists technology and product assessments, performing evaluations as required and making acquisition recommendations.
- Provides load testing requirements and participates in load testing for releases or any targeted load testing to evaluate performance or determining capacity for future growth.
- Create and maintain architecture related artifacts for existing and new solutions.
- Identifies and develops improvements to procedures and processes to satisfy system architecture requirements and streamline operations.
- Business-wide leader in project execution and design of new or existing systems and/or applications
- Conduct requirements gathering/design sessions for new functionality and customizations
- Test custom applications and apply software patches to ensure compatibility, performance, and system stability.
- Gather and documents complex requirements for business needs and independently determines complex solution designs across multiple functional/systems/module areas
- Translates, negotiates and communicates architectural and development concepts across development teams
- Develops project documentation including statements of work, detailed project plans, architecture designs, detailed implementation plans, deployment plans, project test plans and operational training materials.
- Completes complex troubleshooting and determines appropriate course of action to deliver actionable results.
- Demonstrates broad understanding of Garmin’s business model including Engineering, Operations, Finance, Sales & Marketing.
- Develops reliable solutions to complex problems which require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity.

Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, management information systems, electronical or mechanical engineering, or another relevant field and 9 years of database administration, systems architect, or other relevant technical experience:
Must also have demonstrated experience in the following:
- Administering and tuning a variety of data platforms including Oracle, Cassandra, MySQL and PostgreSQL.
- Hands-on software Engineering experience to build APIs and Automation with Python.
- Using Bitbucket and Jenkins for source control and CI/CD processes.
- Infrastructure-as-code and automation using Terraform and Ansible.
- Designing and developing a custom DBaaS solution for private cloud.
- Administering and developing advanced MySQL HA solutions with both Continuent Tungsten and native MySQL technologies.
- Design and conceptualize comprehensive database backup and recovery strategies, ensuring data integrity, minimizing downtime, and aligning with business continuity and disaster recovery requirements.
