Garmin International seeks Senior Aviation Systems Engineer (Olathe, KS; Multiple positions)

Essential Functions

  • Serves in a technical leadership capacity to identify, document, and coordinate technical aspects of new interfaces / functionality in order to support market-driven or specific customer requirements for implementations that can be scalable across multiple products or product lines.
  • Creates and reviews system requirements, supporting rationale, system architectures, and technical description documentation for new products or functions.
  • Leads coordination efforts for collaborative requirement allocation and verification planning activities.
  • Performs complete trade-off analysis for new products and functions, following requirements standards and best-practices.
  • Provides technical input to product concepts and/or development plans, and contributes to technical definition of new product/feature ideas for discussion in periodic roadmap reviews with leadership.
  • Performs technical market research and analysis in support of product definition and/or business development initiatives.
  • Generates, executes, and/or reviews bench test plans/procedures for new products/features to validate system functionality against customer expectations and/or verify system requirements, clearly documenting testing performed with clear and sufficient details about observed issues and feedback to development teams to ensure solutions are designed correctly.
  • Troubleshoots complex bench, simulator, and/or field issues, including identifying technical root cause and suggesting correction action for given problems using sound problem solving techniques.
  • Establishes program/project-specific execution plans for system-level processes and roadmap initiatives, including initial discussions with customers.
  • Analyzes system design, performance, safety, and/or security for new products/features in accordance with applicable processes/procedures.
  • Improves and/or creates system-level processes, best practices, and/or tools for systems engineering, development assurance, and/or cybersecurity in accordance with regulations and industry standards.
  • Provides reliable solutions to a wide range of difficult problems using sound problem solving techniques.
  • Mentors and provides guidance to less experienced Aviation Systems Engineers (1 & 2).
  • Works collaboratively and professionally in a team environment with other Garmin associates to achieve goals.
  • Applies a sense of urgency, commitment, and focus on the right priorities in developing solutions in a timely fashion.
  • Exemplifies Garmin’s Mission, Vision, Values, and Quality Policy and proactively works to improve Garmin’s image and culture. Full time remote work is not available.

Basic Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field, plus 3 years of relevant experience in the aviation systems environment.
  • Developing new signal processing algorithms for moving or ground platform radar applications.
  • Researching novel techniques to improve radar performance.
  • Simulating or modeling radar signals and systems, including signal-environment interaction.
  • Processing and analyzing data collected using moving or ground platforms radar.
  • Improving moving or ground platforms radar data quality.
  • Signal processing experience using complex IQ data.
  • Experience with I-D, 2-D filter designs, windowing techniques, decimation and interpolation methods and applications.
  • Strong background in statistics, including signal estimation and probability theory.
  • Understanding of radar theory, Doppler or non-Doppler radar signals, radar waveforms.
  • Adaptive radar signal processing methods.
  • In lieu of a Master’s plus three years of experience, a Bachelor’s plus five years of progressive experience in the requirements noted above is acceptable.
