Overview
We are seeking a full-time EMC Engineering Technician in our Olathe, KS location. In this role, you will be responsible for creating an integrated avionics system to simulate aircraft installation to perform EMC testing and monitor and document system performance.
Essential Functions
- Work is closely supervised by an engineer or more experienced technician
 - Follow specific, detailed instructions
 - Support testing at an outside facility as directed by Engineer or another Technician onsite
 - Create simple plans/reports or provide contribution to larger complex plans/reports
 - Execute plan made by Engineer or more experienced technician
 - Perform testing at Olathe or offsite as required
 - Communicate status of work clearly providing visibility to Engineer or more experienced technician
 - Fill out component or equipment P.O.s
 - Partner with factory or Engineering to work with ATE equipment and document any findings
 - Work through problems as a team, regardless of who is at fault, to address any problems that arise
 - Flexible and able to adjust to fix problems that might arise
 - Flexible to change direction and accept different assignments driven by changes in Garmin priorities
 - Construct setups, create qualification plans and reports, and execute tests for small system/product with assistance
 - Work as part of a team to assist in the setup, run, and completion of test plans and reports for a large, integrated system
 - Read and follow schematics and layout drawings to identify solder and assembly problems
 - Correct problems independently or with assistance
 - Understand system interconnects/wiring practices and diagnose/correct connection and wiring problems
 - Create system wiring diagrams with assistance
 - Prepare and execute electrical rework and software updates on lab prototypes
 - Track lab equipment and coordinate with Cal lab
 - Author test set up documents with some supervision
 
Basic Qualifications
- Associate’s Degree in Electronics Engineering Technology, Electronics Engineering, or another substantially similar field OR electronics related Military training OR completion of a minimum of 80 hours towards a BS degree in Electronics Technology or substantially related field OR current ISCET certification or related certification OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
 - Capable of applying test processes and methods to verify design and product performance
 - Demonstrates good communication skills
 - Understands importance of thoroughly documenting work in an organized manner
 - Understands Garmin’s Mission Statement and Quality Policy
 - Able to work professionally and in a positive, respectful manner with all other Garmin associates
 - Ability to work in a collaborative team environment to achieve goals
 - Be proactive to help others in the group during any spare bandwidth
 - Willing and able to share information and ideas freely and positively
 - Works with a sense of urgency
 - Be proficient with Microsoft Word to be able to write reports
 - Have familiarity with WORD. XL and VISIO/AutoCAD
 - Have a general understanding of Garmin Integrated Flight Deck (GIFD) including the general role that each product has in the GIFD
 - Ability to perform debugging with supervision
 - Can execute simple (e.g. Appliance level) product test plans and provide detailed test reports
 - Must possess the ability to: bend, twist and lift up to 50 lbs. and team lift up to 100 lbs. while using safe lifting techniques; push/pull test equipment on wheeled, moveable racks of up to 400 lbs.; stand for extended periods of time, climb and utilize ladders to connect cables; and walk long distances throughout the facility
