Overview



We are seeking a full-time Manager IT Applications in our Olathe, KS location. In this role, you will be responsible for managing one or more teams responsible for delivering, enhancing and supporting the Single Sign-On application and partnering with teams with their integration efforts in supporting Garmin’s strategic and business initiatives.

We are looking for an individual who is able to lead, inspire and develop team members by setting clear expectations, goals, providing consistent feedback, training and fostering a collaborative accountable and high-performing team. Ideal candidate must be able to communicate effectively at all levels within the organization, influence others across the organization, experienced in monitoring and alerting tools and is proficient in java programming language with expertise in RESTful APIs and microservices architecture.

Essential Functions

  • Provide support to internal/external customers enabling the achievement of excellent customer satisfaction levels and identifying opportunities to extract additional value and reduce business cost/complexity
  • Optimize and continuously improve in the quality and usability of applications
  • Cultivate a culture of highly accountable and performant teams based on modern applications management practices/technologies
  • Provide the structure under which functional/technical assistance will be provided to both the business units and customers, as required to service production system and data needs
  • Provide operational leadership for day-to-day processes/activities for respective application teams and ensure effective management of business requirements (inclusive of key business deliverables and expected results) and priorities by applications teams
  • Plan/schedule work including the allocation of resources and planning team members’ work
  • Participate in discovery efforts, platform evaluation and selection in conjunction with development counterparts to determine feasibility of team or functional goals/objectives
  • Coordinate with technical counterparts to ensure projects meet functional requirements, technical requirements, compliance controls, and development standards
  • Partner with Business Analysts, Enterprise Stakeholders and Development teams to craft solutions and justify project impacts (benefits, risks and dependencies) and return on investment
  • Establish/coordinate requirements for global internet related IT projects with global teams
  • Proactively identify/contribute to the resolution of ancillary discrepancies and conflicts between interdepartmental applications and strategic channels on an enterprise level
  • Manage the reconciliation and drive consensus regarding business tactical/strategic direction
  • Oversee application/digital product strategy and vision that includes long-term planning, industry awareness, and anticipation of business trends
  • Research, select, and coordinate with vendors to ensure the best solutions and ROI for Garmin
  • Participate in relevant governance processes to ensure all proposed and accepted work has understood goals, scope and ROI
  • Participate in the incident management process serving as incident owner when necessary
  • Foster innovation/teamwork to align with organizational structure and core values
  • Ensure projects are appropriately staffed to align with priorities and delivery targets
  • Collaborate with functional/technical leads to ensure optimum team effectivity
  • Monitor organization health through each squad’s delivery and quality metrics
  • Participate in evolving product development roadmaps
  • Provide visibility to reporting director on major accomplishments, changes and risks as well as the health and evolution of both the products and teams and communicate to VP/other directors as needed
  • Engage/motivate staff by communicating frequently on the topics of vision, goals, upcoming changes, and status
  • Actively implement continuous improvement on an enterprise level for business processes and IT business analysis processes
  • Document work in an effective/organized manner in accordance with Garmin/IT standards
  • Will champion being solution minded and help encourage that thinking throughout the implementation team(s) and will focus strategically on what may be possible with awareness of industry trends/technologies
  • Is accountable for effectively managing change including approving changes, communicating upcoming major releases to IT Management and evaluating risks
  • Collaborate directly with co-located and remote development team members and business clients
  • Assist Leadership in departmental budgeting and capacity planning
  • Build and maintain high performing team(s) by recruiting, developing, and retaining outstanding talent
  • Promote team member engagement/effectiveness by providing constructive feedback and promoting personal development, including writing/conducting annual performance appraisals
  • Develop and manage team and individual performance and capacity metrics to identify successful operations or areas where improvement is needed, while also working to ensure all organizational objectives are met
  • Demonstrate ongoing personal development, professional growth, and continuous education
  • Accept, develop and execute projects and other miscellaneous IT & Security duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Business or other related field AND a minimum of 5 years experience OR equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
  • Minimum of 3 years previous IT management experience
  • Awareness and understanding across a portfolio of applications/technologies
  • Ability to provide consultation for functional and technical solutions
  • Must demonstrate superior analytical skills including a thorough understanding of how to interpret customer business needs and translate them into application and operational requirements
  • Demonstrated in-depth understanding of internet technologies
  • Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills in a cross-functional setting with business partners

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience managing the implementation of internet applications including CRM, Call Center, e-Commerce applications, etc.
  • Experience with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX), Payment Card Industry (PCI), Information Technology Information Library (ITIL), or other regulatory issues
  • Certification in a nationally accredited project management discipline (ex. PMI, PMP, Six Sigma, Unified Rational, etc.)
  • Experience with various development and project management methodologies (ex. Agile SCRUM)
  • Experience with Jira and ALM
  • Understanding of web standards (XHTML, CSS, etc.)
  • Experience with conceptual web application architecture
  • Experience with UX design, emphasis on human factors
  • Experience with multivariant testing and web analytics
  • International communications experience
