Overview
We are seeking a full-time Strategic Programs Engineer 1 in our Olathe, KS location. In this role, you will be responsible for understanding and implementing basic engineering tools and methods to contribute to corporate/global level, strategic programs such as Sustainability, Product Service Strategy or similar corporate initiatives.
Essential Functions
- Designs, develops and implements reliable solutions and processes that will satisfy a wide variety of business needs/requirements
- Creates business requirements that align with Garmin’s strategies for abstract and/or undefined problems
- Learns to monitor and interpret global regulations and compliance standards that are applicable to Garmin's business
- Identifies/drives process improvement initiatives and activities
- Ability to drive initiatives across global and/or cross-functional teams
- Identifies/resolves basic issues/risks using proper engineering tools/techniques, and uses good judgement in determining when to escalate issues to mentor or supervisor
- Performs basic statistical analysis
- Leads small to mid-size projects or sub-projects of average complexity, seeking input from mentor and/or supervisor as needed
- Learns how to use/apply engineering and project management tools relevant for performing the essential functions of this job description
- Uses effective communication skills to provide transparency to stakeholders on project status, issues, next steps, mitigation plans and impacts to the business
- Develops good relationships with both internal teams and external stakeholders (ex. customers, suppliers, etc.) including Garmin teams around the world
- Applies communication skills, including effective listening, responding appropriately and managing difficult conversations
- Learns how to lead effective and efficient team meetings
- Communicates status of work clearly, providing visibility to supervisor, mentor and stakeholders
- Thoroughly documents work, including project scope, detailed assumptions, requirements (internal, external, regulatory), objectives/targets, validation needs, resource estimates, costs and timing, in an organized manner
- Develops an understanding of Garmin’s business, strategies and connectivity of departmental interdependencies
- Understands Garmin’s Mission, Vision, Values and Quality Policy and enthusiastically exhibits a desire to see Garmin succeed
ADDITIONAL PRODUCT SERVICE STRATEGY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Aligns with Segments, Sales and Service teams on holistic service plan for products at product launch (Product Service Plan – PSP)
- Learns how to manage, facilitate and document Service Strategy meetings
- Identifies opportunities to reduce service & warranty costs for Garmin
- Advocates for product service strategy and customer experience throughout development by participating in design reviews
- Effectively develops product service capabilities and channels that allow Garmin to resolve product issues and reduce service/warranty costs for Garmin
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering discipline or related Engineering technical field
- Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule) with demonstrated ability to effectively apply learned knowledge
- Ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders across organizational and geographical boundaries to achieve goals
- Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
- Strong analytical, organizational and time management skills with keen attention to detail
- Driven problem solver with proven success in identifying/implementing solutions
- Demonstrated understanding of engineering and project management tools/methods
- Must be team-oriented, possess a positive attitude, work well with others, able to prioritize/multi-task in a flexible, fast paced and challenging environment, while maintaining a commitment to meet deadlines
- Must demonstrate the ability to deal with confidential company matters
- Demonstrated proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite
Desired Qualifications
- Previous work or internship in similar role
- Experience with data analytics and reporting tools
- Working knowledge of Jira and Confluence
