Overview
We are seeking a full-time Benefits Specialist 2 in our Olathe, KS location. In this role, you will be responsible for benefit administration activities including health & welfare plans, retirement plans, educational assistance, voluntary benefits, in-house administration of leave and accommodation requests including the coordination of short and long term disability benefits, while providing guidance and recommendations to associates, management and Human Resources.
Essential Functions
- Executes benefits administration activities to support health & welfare plans, retirement plans, PTO & leaves, educational assistance and voluntary benefits
- Conducts new hire in-processing group presentations explaining details of specified benefit programs along with other educational initiatives, policies and procedures, etc.
- Provides information, advice and counsel to associates regarding HR and benefits questions
- Drafts communications and coordinates company-wide benefits meetings and enrollment process
- Acts as a customer service consultant handling some moderately complex issues requiring specialized benefits knowledge
- Works with third party administrators on communication and plan administration to maintain service and quality
- Creates/maintains the controlling spreadsheet for all enrollment transactions and the deduction register change list; audits billings and financial data
- Implements assigned process improvements in the Benefits functional area to continuously improve efficiency and customer service
- Assists with reconciliation functions and pay issues with the Payroll department as it relates to premiums (Workman’s Compensation, FMLA and LOA)
- May participate in OSHA reporting
- Conducts assessments and recommends methods to address problems and implement benefits related solutions to achieve HR tactical goals
- Ensures compliance with HR related legislation/regulations and Garmin HR policies with oversight from HR management and Legal
- Applies a sense of urgency, commitment and focus on the right priorities
- Works collaboratively and professionally with other Garmin associates and performs as a solid contributor on cross functional teams to achieve goals

SPECIALIZATION AREAS:
Leave Administration
- Administers leave of absences, collaborates with leaders, and ensures adherence to federal, state, and local laws and regulations including FMLA, ADA, personal, medical, military, workers compensation and parental leaves
- Manages the leave administration and time keeping systems to ensure accurate coordination of leave records and related processes
- Oversees the complete leave process life cycle, from the associates initial notice to their return to work
- Collects/compiles all required paperwork, determines leave eligibility and approval determinations, maintains accurate and complete leave records and documentation in the leave administration system and other databases
- Coordinates with payroll, benefits, and other departments to ensure accurate and timely leave payments and benefits continuation with benefit vendors
- Stays up to date on the latest developments and trends in leave administration and benefits
- Preserves confidentiality of medical documentation and files
- Acts as a subject matter expert when handling complex leave issues requiring specialized leave knowledge
- Conducts audits to ensure records are accurateComplies with legislation, regulations, and Garmin HR policies with oversight from HR management and Legal
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business, Psychology, or another related discipline AND a minimum of 2 years relevant work experience OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
- 2 years experience with FMLA
- Demonstrates leadership presence while securing management support, political savvy and the ability to influence decision making
- Demonstrates understanding of HR related legislation, practices, processes, programs and technology
- Demonstrates strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Demonstrated problem solving and conflict resolution experience
- Must be detail oriented, demonstrate the ability to prioritize/multi-task effectively with minimal supervision, be team oriented, possess a positive attitude, and work well with others
- Must possess previous experience and commitment to maintaining confidentiality regarding business and Human Resources matters
- Demonstrated ability to leverage business knowledge and HR metrics in decision making
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with Workman’s Compensation administration
- Experience with leave administration and timekeeping systems such as AbsenceSoft, Oracle, UKG
