Job Description
We are seeking a Systems Engineer to join the Satellite team and contribute to building the overall system. As part of the Systems Engineering group, the role involves developing the satellite bus that hosts payloads. The engineer will be responsible for system-level engineering across critical functions such as power, communications, attitude control, orbital maneuvering, and subsystem integration, while ensuring that payloads operate within their defined thermal and radiative limits. This position requires strong first-principles thinking, effective cross-functional collaboration, and the ability to translate complex system requirements into practical engineering solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Develop a fundamental understanding of system-level requirements, including uncertainties and sensitivities, and translate them into clear hardware and software requirements. Define, characterize, and document subsystem interfaces with high rigor and clarity. Design electrical, computational, and communication system architectures that optimize performance while adhering to thermal and mass constraints. Consolidate complex technical information from multiple sources into well-structured and accessible documentation. Identify key system performance parameters and develop effective test plans for validation. Enable programmatic interfacing of laboratory test setups using standard test and measurement equipment. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure subsystem compatibility, system robustness, and overall mission readiness. Perform root-cause analysis for failures and off-nominal behavior across the satellite system.
Requirements
Must-Have Qualifications
- Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Strong ability to reason from first principles, particularly in physics-based systems.
- Good understanding of space environments and basic orbital mechanics.
- Solid foundation in electrical systems and underlying electrical phenomena.
- Hands-on experience in building and debugging electrical systems from scratch.
- Practical experience with electrical measurements, especially using oscilloscopes.
- Strong mathematical reasoning and analytical skills.
- Hands-on experience with scripting (e.g., Python or similar).
Good-to-Have Skills
- Strong understanding of embedded hardware and/or PCB design considerations.
- Prior experience in software engineering.
- Ability to develop high-performance numerical computation modules.
- Good understanding of communication protocols (e.g., UART, SPI, CAN, Ethernet).
- Familiarity with AC/DC power conversion concepts and systems.
What we look for
- Excellent creative thinking with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively with a distributed and diverse team of developers and engineers.
- Willingness to learn new concepts, stay updated with the state of the art, and implement better methods quickly.
- Ability to work within deadlines in a dynamic, fast-moving environment.
- Ability to learn from domain experts, interface with specialists, and absorb new skills rapidly.
- Ownership mindset, adaptability, and consistent execution in ambiguous problem spaces.
Benefits
- Fair compensation will be provided as per market standards.
- Experience rapid growth and start-up culture.
- Flexible Working Hours.
- Open to exploring, discussing and implementing new ideas and processes.
- Get a chance to work with Advisors holding senior positions and decades of experience.
- Opportunity to work closely with the Founding Team at GalaxEye.
