Senior Thermal Design and Analysis Engineer
GalaxEye Space
Job Description
Team & Role:
You will be joining the Satellite Bus team and working on building the spacecraft bus thermal system. You will own the thermal design and analysis of the satellite bus, ensuring all subsystems operate within allowable temperature limits across mission phases. The role involves developing and maintaining high-fidelity thermal models, defining passive and active thermal control strategies, and supporting integration and environmental testing to deliver a flight-ready spacecraft.
Responsibilities :
Own spacecraft bus-level thermal design and analysis from concept through flight qualification.
Define the thermal control architecture for the spacecraft bus (passive and active).
Develop and maintain Thermal Mathematical Models (TMMs) using Siemens NX Space Systems Thermal (TMG) within Simcenter 3D.
Perform steady-state and transient orbital thermal analyses.
Perform first-principles thermal calculations for radiator sizing, heater sizing, and thermal margins.
Design and implement passive thermal control measures including coatings, MLI, heat paths, and interface conductance.
Design active thermal control systems including heater sizing, zoning, redundancy, and control philosophy.
Define thermal requirements, temperature limits, and verification matrices for spacecraft bus subsystems.
Work closely with structures, avionics, EPS, propulsion, payload, and AIT teams to ensure thermal compatibility.
Ensure corroboration of design with thermal vacuum (TVAC) and thermal balance testing.
Perform thermal analysis for avionics and electronics components where required.
Investigate and resolve thermal anomalies during integration and environmental testing.
Requirements
Must-have Qualifications :
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Thermal Engineering.
3–6 years of experience in spacecraft or aerospace thermal design and analysis.
Mandatory hands-on experience with Siemens NX Space Systems Thermal (TMG) within Simcenter 3D.
Strong understanding of spacecraft heat transfer and orbital thermal environments.
Experience developing thermal mathematical models and performing orbital thermal analysis.
Ability to validate simulation results using first-principles thermal calculations.
Experience supporting TVAC or thermal balance testing and model correlation.
Solid understanding of spacecraft materials, thermal coatings, MLI, and thermal hardware.
Experience with Earth observation satellites.
Familiarity with ISRO / ESA / NASA spacecraft thermal standards.
Experience with electronics/PCB thermal analysis tools (e.g., FloTHERM or equivalent).
Exposure to bus–payload thermal interface design.
Experience working in private aerospace or hardware-focused startups.
Experience across at least one spacecraft development lifecycle.
What we look for :
Strong first-principles engineering mindset and analytical thinking.
Ability to take ownership of subsystem design and drive it to flight readiness.
Comfortable working in cross-functional hardware teams.
Hands-on approach with willingness to support integration and environmental testing
