Systems Design Engineer (MSI)
GalaxEye Space
Job Description
We are seeking a Systems Design Engineer to support the development of a Multi-spectral Imaging (MSI) payload , working across system architecture, opto-mechanical design coordination, and electronics interfaces. This role is intended for an early-career engineer with strong fundamentals, sound engineering curiosity, and the willingness to learn quickly in a multidisciplinary hardware environment.
The position will involve close collaboration with optics, opto-mechanics, camera electronics, firmware/FPGA, integration, and testing teams. The engineer will support the translation of mission and payload requirements into practical subsystem definitions, interface understanding, design coordination, and verification activities.
This is a hands-on systems role suited to someone who is eager to learn, comfortable asking questions, and capable of independently working through technical problems with guidance from senior engineers.
Key Responsibilities
- Support system and subsystem design activities for the MSI payload across optics, opto-mechanics, electronics, and interfaces.
- Assist in translating payload requirements into subsystem-level design inputs, interface definitions, and engineering documentation.
- Work with optics and opto-mechanical teams to understand alignment, packaging, structural interfaces, tolerances, and integration constraints.
- Support coordination with electronics teams to understand detector interfaces, control electronics, signal paths, power architecture, and basic embedded hardware concepts.
- Contribute to system budgets, trade studies, and engineering analyses related to performance, packaging, interfaces, and integration.
- Assist in preparing and maintaining technical documentation such as requirements notes, interface descriptions, design summaries, review material, and test support documents.
- Participate in subsystem integration, lab bring-up, troubleshooting, and validation activities.
- Support engineering reviews, design discussions, and follow-up actions across multidisciplinary teams.
- Help identify design issues, interface gaps, and integration risks early, and escalate them appropriately.
- Learn to evaluate technical trade-offs across optics, mechanics, electronics, and system-level requirements under the guidance of senior engineers.
