The Opportunity

Flock Safety is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Aircraft Technician to join our production and testing team. This role expands upon foundational assembly expertise, requiring proficiency in not only the precise construction of aircraft systems but also the critical ability to test functionality through flight maneuvers. We are looking for individuals who possess a meticulous eye for detail, a strong understanding of technical assembly, and a proactive approach to diagnosing and resolving complex issues. This is a crucial role that directly impacts the performance and reliability of our cutting-edge aerial technology

How You'll Make an Impact

  • Perform precise assembly and integration of complex aircraft systems and sub-systems.

  • Execute accurate soldering techniques for intricate electrical and mechanical connections.

  • Apply correct screw installation methods, understanding different types, their specific applications, and torque requirements.

  • Utilize Loctite and other bonding agents appropriately within aircraft assemblies.

  • Program aircraft systems to ensure proper functionality before testing.

  • Conduct basic flight maneuvers to test assembled aircraft systems and confirm operational integrity.

  • Identify and diagnose issues arising from the assembly process, initiating corrective actions or seeking further diagnostic support.

  • Consistently produce assemblies with an exceptional level of precision and attention to detail, minimizing rework.

  • Adhere strictly to all aircraft assembly safety procedures and maintain a secure, organized workspace.

  • Efficiently manage time and resources to meet production targets while maintaining the highest quality standards.

  • Document assembly procedures, testing results, and diagnostic findings accurately.

The Skillset

This role demands frequent physical activity, including but not limited to: precise hand movements, prolonged standing, and handling various aircraft components.

  • Proven experience in assembly, manufacturing, or a related technical field, preferably with complex electronic or mechanical systems.

  • Proficiency in proper soldering techniques for electrical and mechanical applications.

  • Strong understanding and practical application of various fastening methods, including screw installation and torque control.

  • Meticulous attention to detail and an unwavering commitment to quality craftsmanship.

  • Ability to follow complex technical drawings, schematics, and assembly instructions accurately.

  • Strong manual dexterity and excellent hand-eye coordination.

  • Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and master new technical skills and complex processes.

  • Proven problem-solving abilities, with an aptitude for diagnosing and rectifying technical issues.

  • Basic proficiency in operating drones or other remote-controlled aircraft for testing purposes.

  • Proactive mindset, eager to contribute, and a strong team player.

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced production and testing environment.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for technical documentation and team collaboration.

  • Basic computer literacy for programming, documentation, and communication.

Required Availability:

Typically Monday through Friday during standard business hours. Overtime may be expected based on production and testing demands.

Travel:

Minimal to no travel is anticipated for this role.

Physical Activities Performed Frequently:

  • Performing highly repetitive motions, especially involving wrists, hands, and fingers, for precise assembly.

  • Manipulating small and intricate components with high precision.

  • Remaining in a stationary position, often standing, for prolonged periods during assembly and testing.

  • Moving about the assembly and testing areas to retrieve parts, tools, or aircraft.

  • Adjusting or moving objects up to 20 pounds in various directions.

  • Communicating effectively with team members and managers regarding progress, issues, and solutions.

  • Operating various hand tools, specialized assembly equipment, and potentially flight controllers.

  • Constantly assessing the accuracy, quality, and thoroughness of aircraft assemblies and their functionality.

Environmental Conditions and Physical Demands:

  • Working in a controlled warehouse or assembly environment, which may include dedicated testing areas.

  • Exposure to moderate noise levels from machinery and testing operations.

  • Handling sensitive electronic and mechanical aircraft components.

  • Adhering to strict safety protocols specific to aircraft assembly and flight testing.

90 Days at Flock

We believe in setting clear expectations and providing a structured path for success. This 90-day plan outlines key milestones and objectives for your first three months as an Aircraft Technician.

The First 30 Days

  • Participate in daily 1:1 meetings with your manager during the first week to ensure seamless integration.

  • Connect with key peers and cross-functional teams, including Connectivity and EE teams.

  • Complete initial company onboarding, workspace setup, and immediately contribute with a "first day build" (e.g., a solder practice board) and begin your first full aircraft build with manager assistance.

  • Demonstrate adherence to safe aircraft assembly procedures and the ability to perform the work effectively.

The First 60 Days

  • Achieve confidence in assembling the aircraft in a consistent and repeatable fashion.

  • Become proficient in basic flight maneuvers with the aircraft.

  • Begin to diagnose assembly-related issues, escalating for further manager assistance when needed.

90 Days & Beyond

  • Confidently handle the complete assembly of aircraft systems, rarely requiring rework or manager intervention for tasks.

  • Independently and confidently diagnose complex assembly issues.

  • Continuously refine your assembly, testing, and diagnostic skills, contributing significantly to aircraft production and quality.

  • Become a key resource for troubleshooting and process improvement within the production team.

Compensation

In this role, you’ll receive starting pay of $21-$24/hour.
