Overview
We are seeking an Application Developer to join Esri’s Geo Experience Center team, where you will contribute to building prototype applications that explore emerging capabilities in 3D GIS, digital twins, and immersive spatial analytics. This role focuses on hands-on application development, using modern game engines and immersive technologies to test ideas, visualize complex spatial data, and support early-stage innovation. You will work on building thought leadership demonstrations and prototypes that push the boundaries of Esri’s geospatial tools and technology.
You would be working within a diverse team of talents creating prototypical applications informed by real-world use cases and customer needs to creatively apply Esri’s geospatial technology.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain prototype applications that explore advanced 3D visualization and immersive spatial analytics concepts
- Contribute to the design and implementation of user experiences for immersive environments, including interaction models beyond traditional keyboard-and-mouse workflows
- Assist in prototyping and experimenting with cartographic approaches for 3D and immersive environments, helping explore how spatial data can be effectively represented in digital twin and immersive contexts
- Collaborate with core development and SDK teams during development and testing cycles, providing feedback on tools, workflows, and developer experience
- Explore and apply emerging immersive and XR technologies, learning new development approaches as platforms and hardware continue to evolve
- Evolve coding and development skills by staying current with complementary programming languages (such as C#, visual scripting), development practices, and immersive UI design techniques
Requirements
- 2+ years of experience developing applications, with hands-on experience using game engines such as Unity (preferred) or Unreal Engine in non-gaming real-time 3D and simulation
- Exposure to or interest in immersive or extended reality (XR) technologies, including VR, AR, or spatial computing platforms
- Foundational understanding of 3D visualization or immersive cartography, including rendering spatial data in real-time 3D or immersive environments
- Experience applying 3D or immersive technologies in an industry, enterprise, or applied context where visualization supports functional, educational or analytical outcomes
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, GIS, or related field
- Ability to travel domestically or internationally up to 25-50%

Recommended Qualifications
- Familiarity with platforms or organizations operating at the intersection of enterprise software and 3D or immersive technology (such as Unity, Unreal, Autodesk, Bentley)
- Interest in XR frameworks and awareness of emerging development paths across platforms and devices
- Curiosity-driven mindset with an interest in learning, experimentation, and contributing to evolving technical problem spaces
- Master’s degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, GIS, or related field
