EchoStar has an exciting opportunity for an Aviation Structural Design Engineer in our Hughes Network Systems division. This position could be located in either Germantown, MD or Lisle, IL.

Hughes is a leading provider of satellite products and services that recently announced disruptive in-flight entertainment and connectivity solutions for airlines.

This position will design and develop the installation and main structure modifications associated with the connectivity system. The candidate will work closely with Electrical Engineering, PMO, Supply Chain, and outside vendors to ensure they are installable on aircraft. Responsibilities:

  • Aircraft Structure Design: Evaluate and design LRU equipment installations, including integration of large equipment into aircraft main structures, ensuring compliance with industry regulations and standards.
  • Structural Analysis: Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and classical hand calculations. Perform advanced FEA simulations to evaluate and optimize structural components, materials, and assemblies for strength, stiffness, and durability.
  • Material Selection: Collaborate with materials engineers to select and evaluate suitable materials, considering factors such as weight, performance, and environmental impact.
  • Safety and Certification: Ensure that all structural designs and modifications adhere to aviation safety and certification requirements, working closely with regulatory authorities.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including electrical engineers, systems engineers, and manufacturing experts, to ensure seamless integration of structural solutions within the aircraft design.
  • Testing and Validation: Evaluate and develop structural testing plans and procedures to validate designs, materials, and manufacturing processes.

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree Structural Engineering, Mechanical engineering, Aerospace Engineering or a related technical field.
  • 0-3 years of experience in structural engineering within the aviation or aerospace industry.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of aviation structural design, analysis, and certification processes, including familiarity with industry standards (e.g., FAR Part 25, CS-25).
  • Familiar with aviation regulations and standards (FAA, EASA, etc) and experience with aircraft design methodologies. Familiarity with industry-specific tools and technologies (DO-254, DO-160) is a plus. A working knowledge of the STC process is important.
  • Proficiency in structural analysis software and finite element analysis tools.
  • Experience with CAD software for 3D modeling and design.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.
  • Excellent communication and project management skills

Will be eligible for discretionary bonus, with funding based on company performance.

Compensation Range

Annual Salary: $64,000.00 - $80,000.00
