The Staff Power Electrical Engineer will participate in all aspects of the development and test of avionics hardware for E-Space satellites. The ideal candidate has 10+ years of experience in electrical hardware design including schematic capture, PCB layout, and testing.
This position reports to the Director of Electrical Engineering and will work closely with the Electrical, Software, and Systems Engineering teams. This role is based in our Saratoga, CA office.
What you’ll be doing:
- Design, build, and test spacecraft battery packs, battery management circuits, power distribution, and other mixed signal satellite electronics
- Support electro-mechanical design and manufacturing of battery packs
- Develop unit requirements in collaboration with other engineering disciplines
- Schematic capture and PCB layout using Altium Designer
- Circuit analysis including power, tolerance, and reliability
- Electronics design verification and qualification testing
- Production manufacturing support as needed
What you bring to this role:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent
- 10+ years of experience in electrical hardware design including schematic capture, PCB layout, and testing
- Design proficiency with battery management circuits, power distribution, switch mode power supplies, and precision analog instrumentation
- Knowledge of battery pack manufacturing techniques including cell characterization and welding
- Skilled at schematic capture and layout of complex PCBs
- Skilled at performing circuit analyses in SPICE and Excel
- Proficiency with basic electronic lab equipment such as power supplies, oscilloscopes, DMMs, signal generators, soldering iron, etc.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully deliver new products or components
Bonus points for the following:
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent
- Experience designing for space environments, including radiation impacts and mitigation
- Familiarity with Altium Designer
- Successful implementation or sustainment of automated battery manufacturing and test systems
- Experience designing rigid-flex PCBs and general electro-mechanical design familiarity
- FPGA design experience
- Embedded software development skills for ARM core processors
This is a full time, exempt position, based out of our Saratoga office. The target base pay for this position is $150,000 - $220,000 annually. The total compensation packaged will be determined by various factors such as your relevant job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
