Software Engineer, BI Platform
DoorDash
About the Team
Data is at the core of DoorDash’s success. The Data Engineering and BI Platform team builds and operates the foundational data infrastructure and analytics platforms that power decision-making across the company. Our work enables tens of thousands of internal users, from operators and product managers to finance and marketing leaders, to reliably explore, analyze, and act on data at scale.
We own the end-to-end analytics experience: from data modeling and transformation, to semantic layers and metrics, to governed self-service BI. By investing in scalable architecture, strong abstractions, and developer-friendly tooling, we enable DoorDash to operate as a truly data-driven organization.
About the Role
DoorDash is seeking a Software / Data Engineer to help architect, build, and scale our next-generation Business Intelligence platform. In this role, you will own the core of the analytics platform that thousands of users rely on daily. You’ll design robust interfaces, semantic models, define metric standards, and ensure high performance, governance, and trust across our BI ecosystem. You will partner closely with Analytics, Product, Finance, and Data Engineering teams to translate complex business needs into scalable, reusable data abstractions within our Semantic Layer. This role sits at the intersection of data engineering, analytics engineering, and platform engineering, and is ideal for someone excited about building durable analytics foundations.
You’re excited about this opportunity because you will…
- Design, build, and scale a company-wide BI platform powered by the best visualization and modeling tools, supporting tens of thousands of concurrent users
- Own and evolve the semantic layer, ensuring consistent, trusted definitions across the business
- Architect projects, data models, and marts with a strong focus on performance, reusability, and governance
- Partner with Analytics, Data Engineering, and business stakeholders to understand data consumption patterns and translate them into scalable platform capabilities
- Drive platform initiatives around data quality, testing, observability, lineage, and access control
- Establish and enforce best practices for analytics engineering, including modeling patterns, governance, documentation, and CI/CD
- Optimize BI performance across the stack (warehouse, data models, semantic layer, and SQL queries)
- Enable and empower downstream users through strong abstractions, documentation, and self-service capabilities
- Mentor and influence engineers and analytics partners, raising the technical bar for analytics platform development
- Identify and champion investments that improve platform reliability, scalability, and developer velocity
We’re excited about you because you have…
- 5+ years of experience in software engineering, data engineering, or analytics engineering, with meaningful ownership of production data platforms
- Deep expertise in SQL and data modeling for analytics use cases
- Strong hands-on experience with dbt, including:
- Hands-on experience designing or scaling a BI platform, with a strong preference for ThoughtSpot (Looker/Tableau/Superset acceptable if paired with modern modeling experience)
- Experience building and maintaining semantic layers or metrics frameworks used by many teams
- Solid experience with modern data warehouses (e.g., Snowflake or Databricks strongly preferred; Redshift or BigQuery acceptable)
- Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Python, Java, Scala, or Go) for data tooling, automation, or platform services
- Strong understanding of analytics consumption patterns and the needs of analysts, data scientists, and business users
- Experience with CI/CD, version control, and DevOps practices applied to analytics and data platforms
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence technical and non-technical stakeholders
Nice to Haves
- Experience building and scaling data platforms in a high-growth, fast-paced environment
- Experience designing and scaling ELT/ETL frameworks with orchestration tools like Airflow, Dagster, or similar platforms
- Exposure to data mesh concepts or domain-oriented data architecture
- A systems mindset—comfortable thinking at both the architectural and implementation level
- Hands-on experience with data observability tools and practices
Interviews will be conducted in English.
