Job Duties and Responsibilities
As a 5G ORAN Field Engineer, you’ll be out in the field keeping our facilities and equipment in top form by maintaining multiple locations in your assigned area. You will be in charge of post construction checks, single site verification, commissioning, site acceptance, testing and maintaining cell sites and edge and local data center installations. You will also be evaluating our network coverage and finding ways to make it even better.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate, maintain, and perform preventative maintenance on all cell site equipment in the wireless network
- Support and deploy CU-CP and CU-UP network functions using VMWare Telco Cloud Automation Platform; conduct tests and troubleshoot if remote config file push fails
- Configure the CSR at the sites
- Inspect site cabinet for damage or post-construction issues
- Validate breaker placement, ensuring GPS cable and backhaul fiber connections
- Verify power and site configuration, validate GC COP for commissioning readiness
- Verify antenna positions for azimuth, abnormal tilts, and color placements
- Perform single site verification using EXFO tool to check for VSWR, PIM, RET, and swap issues
- Ensure correct fiber connections and conduct testing at the site and local data center
- Identify any faulty radios through manual checks, EXFO, and EMS Configuration
- Utilize necessary test equipment for VSWR, intermodulation, network interference, and dark/lit fiber testing
- Collaborate with microwave and transport experts to troubleshoot integration, commissioning, and post-launch issues
- Work closely with RF and construction teams to troubleshoot network functionality issues during construction, post-construction, and commissioning
- Maintain accurate inventory records, submit regular reports, and complete audits as required
- Resolve network tickets within assigned service level agreements (SLAs) in collaboration with the Network Operation Center (NOC)
- Ensure compliance with DISH installation standards by general contractors
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment at all DISH locations
- Act as a technical leader within and outside the immediate team
- Provide input on process improvements related to maintenance and repair activities
- Assist in creating job aids, scopes of work, method/statement of procedure, and helpful tools
- Assist with technical and project-related escalations and communicate effectively with the appropriate audience
Skills, Experience and Requirements
Education and Experience:
- 4-7 years of experience in telecommunications with direct experience in RAN, 4G LTE cell site troubleshooting, and testing Familiarity with testing protocols for transport, RF, base-station turn-up, commissioning, and validation
Skills and Qualifications:
- Troubleshooting experience with antenna systems using tools like a spectrum analyzer
- Optimization, troubleshooting, and maintenance of base station
equipment, radio transmitters, and Fiber network gear and test equipment - Testing and integration of fiber networks to enhance customer experience
Expertise in PIM, VSWR, MIMO, and RET, including knowledge of fiber and LTE remote radio heads - Experience with base station equipment from Lucent, Motorola, Nokia, Samsung, or Ericsson, with LTE or CDMA technology
- Telecom experience such as T1, DACS, or OMP
- Proficiency in dark and lit fiber testing using equipment like OTDR and
fiberscope - Electronics training in telecommunications, two-way radio, paging, or microwave radio
- Computer support experience, including troubleshooting PC hardware and configurations
- Familiarity with DC power distribution systems such as Galaxy, Alpha, or Lorain
- Training in data communications, digital communications, operating systems and applications, computer support, scripting, or project management is preferred
- Travel required up to 75% domestically
- Must be able to work nonstandard hours to support business needs
- Ability to read technical drawings like as-builts, construction drawings, and MOPs
- Physical abilities: standing, walking, bending, crawling into small spaces, working at heights, lifting objects up to 70 lbs
- Intermediate knowledge of general computer applications, experience with Google Suite is a plus
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Problem-solving abilities using creativity and innovation
- Ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks within deadlines

Salary Ranges
Compensation: $72,350.00/Year - $103,400.00/Year
