Position: Senior Database Developer/Administrator

Reporting To: CTO

Role Overview: We are looking for a dynamic hybrid database developer and administrator to provide expertise and ownership over our databases. As a data company, databases are obviously the core of everything we do, and we are looking for someone to deliver the right mix of speed, features, resiliency, and cost to help the organization meet goals. The core responsibilities of this role involve administering the database: ensuring uptime and performance. That said, a truly great candidate would:

• Work with developers to understand features and jointly determine whether functionality should live inside or outside the database
• Work with users of the database to provide guidance in building queries, understand their needs, and proactively build solutions that they may not know are possible
• Seek to constantly evaluate new extensions and technologies to push the envelope of features and speed

Responsibilities:

• Manage and maintain the company’s Postgres database systems.
• Ensure database performance, security, and reliability.
• Implement and maintain policies and practices for disaster recovery and backup.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to optimize database structures, queries, and indexes for performance and scalability.
• Proactively scale our databases to meet growing data demands.
• Monitor database performance, implement changes, and apply new patches and versions when required.
• Develop SQL functions to complement our database functionality
• Serve as an expert resource in querying and accessing databases for the rest of the organization.

Qualities We Seek:

• Extensive experience in Postgres database administration.
• Strong understanding of database principles, design, and performance optimization techniques.
• Experience managing large-scale database systems in a high-traffic, distributed environment.
• Experience in the AWS ecosystem
• Proficiency in database security, backup, and recovery procedures.
• Familiarity with cloud-based database management and technologies.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think strategically about database infrastructure.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
• A proactive approach to database management, constantly seeking ways to improve and enhance system performance.
