Principal Software Engineer — Retail & Partner Platform Systems
This opportunity is with a client of Andiamo, an innovative technology company transforming how large-scale retail and grocery organizations manage inventory, operational workflows, and customer accessibility through modern software platforms.
About The Opportunity
We are hiring a Principal Software Engineer to help shape the future of a sophisticated partner technology ecosystem used by major retail and grocery organizations. This is a senior-level individual contributor role focused on designing scalable systems, influencing platform architecture, and solving deeply complex operational challenges within enterprise retail environments.
The ideal candidate brings strong engineering depth combined with firsthand experience working within grocery, retail, or retail technology ecosystems. This role requires someone who understands how enterprise retail systems operate — from inventory management and pricing infrastructure to store operations, integrations, fulfillment constraints, and partner workflows.
You will play a critical role in building the backend services, integration layers, and operational tooling that power large-scale partner experiences while collaborating directly with both internal stakeholders and external retail organizations.
This is an opportunity to work on meaningful technology that supports sustainability initiatives, improves operational efficiency, and expands consumer access to affordable products.
What You’ll Be Responsible For
Build & Own Core Partner Systems
Design, develop, and maintain enterprise-grade backend services and partner integrations that support critical retail workflows and operational systems.
Architect and deliver scalable applications using modern backend technologies including Node.js and TypeScript, while contributing to frontend partner tooling where appropriate.
Lead development of APIs, ingestion pipelines, operational services, and partner-facing functionality that support high-volume retail environments.
Own the reliability and long-term health of the systems you build, including monitoring, incident response, observability, scalability, and operational excellence.
Architect for Scale & Simplicity
Drive technical architecture decisions across distributed systems, service boundaries, integration strategies, data models, and platform reliability.
Reduce complexity across the platform by identifying technical debt, improving maintainability, and establishing scalable engineering patterns.
Champion engineering best practices across testing, API design, deployment strategies, observability, and TypeScript standards.
Balance business priorities with long-term platform sustainability while helping teams make pragmatic technical decisions.
Partner Collaboration & Enterprise Integration
Work directly with retail partners, operational stakeholders, and enterprise account teams to understand integration requirements, operational processes, and technical constraints.
Translate business and operational needs into scalable software solutions that fit naturally into complex retail technology ecosystems.
Partner cross-functionally with Product, Data, Operations, and Business Leadership to influence roadmap decisions and proactively identify engineering risks.
Help bridge the gap between technical implementation and real-world retail operations.
Technical Leadership Without Direct Management
Mentor engineers through technical reviews, architecture discussions, collaborative design sessions, and engineering best practices.
Influence technical direction across teams through strong communication, thoughtful decision-making, and engineering credibility.
Lead through expertise, ownership, and strategic thinking rather than formal people management.
Promote a culture of craftsmanship, operational accountability, and continuous improvement.
What You Bring
Required Qualifications
This position offers the opportunity to solve highly complex engineering challenges inside one of the most operationally demanding industries: retail and grocery technology.
You’ll work on systems that directly impact large-scale partner operations, consumer accessibility, and sustainability efforts while helping shape the technical direction of a rapidly growing platform.
You’ll also have the ability to influence architecture, mentor engineers, collaborate directly with enterprise partners, and help define the future of modern retail technology systems.
