Senior Software Engineer — Autonomous Behavior Evaluation & Safety Metrics
Shape how intelligent systems are measured, validated, and trusted in the real world. This role sits at the heart of autonomy—defining how complex driving behavior is evaluated and ensuring that advanced systems operate safely across diverse, unpredictable environments.
If you are excited by the challenge of translating real-world behavior into measurable signals, working with cutting-edge AI and robotics systems, and influencing how autonomous platforms are deployed at scale, this is an opportunity to make a direct and lasting impact.
Role Overview
As a Senior Software Engineer focused on behavior validation, you will design and implement the metrics that determine how well an autonomous system performs in real-world conditions. Your work will bridge simulation, machine learning, and systems engineering to create rigorous, scalable approaches for evaluating safety and performance.
You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams spanning software, systems, simulation, data science, and product to ensure that behavioral evaluation frameworks are both technically robust and aligned with real-world deployment needs.
What You’ll Do
Behavioral Metrics Development
Design and build scalable evaluation metrics that quantify how autonomous systems behave across a wide range of driving scenarios.
Data-Driven Evaluation
Apply a combination of statistical methods, machine learning models, and established safety frameworks to assess system performance end-to-end.
Multi-Environment Testing
Validate system behavior using a blend of simulation, real-world driving data, controlled testing environments, and reconstructed edge-case scenarios.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Partner with engineering, data science, and product teams to define acceptance criteria, align on safety thresholds, and ensure evaluation methods reflect real operational conditions.
Automation & Tooling
Work with infrastructure teams to build automated pipelines for continuous validation, enabling scalable and repeatable testing workflows.
Reporting & Insights
Generate detailed analyses and reports that clearly communicate system performance, risks, and readiness for deployment.
Safety Validation
Contribute to the broader safety case by providing quantitative evidence that supports system reliability within defined operating environments.
What You Bring
Software Engineering Expertise
Proven experience developing production-quality software, with strong proficiency in Python or C++.
Experience Level
5+ years of relevant technical experience, including hands-on software development.
Technical Foundation
Degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline.
Systems Understanding
Solid grasp of how complex robotic or autonomous systems function, including perception, prediction, planning, and control components.
Testing & Simulation
Familiarity with both simulated and real-world testing approaches for evaluating system performance.
Analytical Thinking
Ability to translate complex behaviors into measurable metrics and derive meaningful insights from large datasets.
Collaboration Skills
Strong communicator who can work effectively across diverse technical and non-technical teams.
Preferred Experience
Experience working on advanced autonomous or robotic systems, particularly in behavior modeling or validation.
Background in developing machine learning-driven evaluation frameworks or behavioral analytics.
Exposure to large-scale simulation environments and safety-critical system validation.
Why This Role Matters
As autonomous systems move closer to widespread adoption, the ability to rigorously measure and validate their behavior becomes essential. This role plays a critical part in defining how safety is quantified and demonstrated—turning complex system behavior into actionable, trustworthy insights.
Your work will directly influence how intelligent systems are evaluated, improved, and ultimately deployed in the real world.
