Senior / Staff Systems Engineer — Autonomous Systems Verification

Help ensure the safety and reliability of next-generation autonomous technology at scale. This role sits at the heart of validating intelligent systems that operate in real-world environments—where precision, rigor, and thoughtful engineering directly impact safety and trust.

If you are passionate about autonomous systems, enjoy solving complex verification challenges, and want to play a critical role in bringing advanced mobility solutions to life, this opportunity offers both technical depth and meaningful impact.

Role Overview

As a Senior or Staff Systems Engineer focused on autonomy validation, you will define how intelligent driving systems are evaluated for safety, compliance, and real-world readiness. You will take ownership of verification strategy across the full lifecycle—translating system requirements into measurable criteria and ensuring those requirements are thoroughly tested and validated.

This role requires close collaboration across engineering, simulation, product, and operational teams, working together to ensure autonomous systems perform reliably within defined operating environments.

Key Responsibilities

Requirements Definition & Safety Alignment

Develop and refine system-level requirements that ensure safe and compliant operation of autonomous systems within defined operating conditions and regulatory frameworks.

Metric Design & Validation Criteria

Create scalable evaluation metrics and acceptance thresholds that measure system performance, safety, and adherence to operational rules.

Test Strategy Development

Design and implement comprehensive validation approaches, including simulation-based testing, real-world data analysis, controlled environment testing, and scenario reconstruction.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

Partner with teams across perception, behavior, data science, product, and compliance to align on validation strategies, testing criteria, and system expectations.

Simulation & Automation Integration

Work with infrastructure teams to build and scale automated validation pipelines, ensuring efficient and repeatable testing processes.

Coverage & Scenario Analysis

Evaluate testing completeness across defined operating domains, ensuring scenarios are representative, realistic, and sufficient for deployment readiness.

Safety Case Contribution

Organize and present validation results as structured evidence supporting system safety, contributing to comprehensive safety assurance frameworks.

What You Bring

Autonomous Systems Experience

Hands-on experience developing or validating autonomous or robotic systems, with a strong understanding of real-world deployment challenges.

Systems Thinking

Deep knowledge of how core system components—such as perception, localization, prediction, planning, and control—interact within an autonomy stack.

Testing & Simulation Expertise

Experience working with both simulated and real-world testing methodologies to evaluate system behavior and performance.

Technical Proficiency

Strong programming skills in languages such as Python or C++, with the ability to contribute to tooling and automation.

Analytical & Communication Skills

Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, structured insights for diverse stakeholders.

Collaborative Mindset

Comfort working across multidisciplinary teams to drive alignment and deliver high-quality outcomes.

Qualifications

Approximately 5+ years of technical experience, including at least 3 years working with autonomous or robotic systems.

Experience defining system behavior requirements and validating performance within constrained operating environments.

Preferred Experience

Background in advanced autonomy deployments or high-level automation systems.

Experience developing behavioral models or machine learning-based evaluation metrics.

Familiarity with safety engineering methodologies and standards.

Experience contributing to structured safety validation frameworks or safety case development.

Why This Role Matters

This position plays a critical role in ensuring that autonomous systems are not only functional, but safe, reliable, and ready for real-world use. Your work will directly influence how these systems are evaluated, trusted, and ultimately deployed at scale.

If you are motivated by solving complex problems at the intersection of software, systems engineering, and safety, this role offers the opportunity to shape the future of intelligent mobility.
