Engineering Manager, Developer Infrastructure
This role is an opportunity to shape how hundreds of engineers build, test, and ship software every day. You will lead a team that sits at the center of a modern software organization, designing the platforms, tools, and workflows that make development faster, safer, and more enjoyable. If you care deeply about developer experience and believe great internal platforms unlock outsized business impact, this role offers the chance to make that vision real.
About The Environment
You will be working within a large scale software and data platform that powers personalized digital experiences for businesses. The engineering organization places a strong emphasis on speed, quality, and thoughtful adoption of emerging technologies, including applied artificial intelligence. The focus is on enabling product teams to move quickly with confidence, supported by strong foundations and clear standards.
The Team You Will Lead
The Developer Infrastructure team exists to remove friction from the software development lifecycle. The group builds and maintains shared systems that engineers rely on daily, including development environments, build systems, deployment pipelines, and core tooling. This team acts as a force multiplier, allowing product engineers to focus on customer value instead of infrastructure overhead.
Collaboration and trust are central to how the team operates. Success depends on close partnership with engineers across the organization, listening to their pain points, and delivering practical solutions that scale.
Your Impact
As an Engineering Manager for Developer Infrastructure, you will set direction and lead execution for initiatives that define how software is built across the company. You will balance strategic planning with hands on leadership, ensuring your team delivers reliable platforms while continuing to evolve and improve.
Key areas of ownership include improving development cycle time, reducing repetitive manual work, and raising the overall quality and consistency of engineering workflows. You will guide investments in tooling that shorten feedback loops, improve testing confidence, and streamline delivery from code to production.
What You Will Do
You will define and communicate a clear technical vision and roadmap for developer infrastructure that aligns with broader engineering and business priorities. You will lead initiatives that improve metrics such as pull request turnaround time, continuous integration performance, and overall commit velocity.
You will champion better local development experiences, tackling challenges such as complex service dependencies and short lived test environments. You will oversee platform and dependency upgrades across major programming ecosystems, ensuring strong performance, security, and usability.
You will guide the evolution of build and deployment pipelines, helping teams ship changes safely and frequently. Alongside this, you will manage the day to day health of your team, providing coaching, feedback, and career development support.
What You Bring
You have a strong background in software engineering, with at least five years of professional experience and multiple years leading senior engineers or other managers. Your experience includes platform or developer focused teams, where reliability and scale matter.
You bring deep knowledge of modern development practices, including cloud based infrastructure, automated testing, and continuous delivery. You are comfortable contributing to code when needed and regularly reviewing the work of others. Proficiency in languages such as Python, TypeScript, or Go is expected.
You understand distributed systems and have hands on experience with container orchestration and cloud native platforms, including Kubernetes and major cloud providers. You are known for breaking down complex problems and delivering pragmatic solutions that improve developer workflows.
As a leader, you know how to inspire trust, set clear expectations, and create an environment of ownership and continuous improvement. You communicate clearly with both technical and non technical partners and can influence across teams.
You are curious about artificial intelligence and have already experimented with applying it to engineering work or personal projects. You are eager to explore new tools responsibly and find ways to work smarter and more efficiently.
Helpful Experience
Experience with build systems and frameworks such as Pants, FastAPI, Django, React, Terraform, or Buildkite is beneficial. Familiarity with performance tuning, large scale test data management, and production like testing environments is a plus. Exposure to user interface workflows and testing tools like Cypress or Jest can also be valuable.
Compensation
The expected base salary range for this role within the United States typically falls between 188,000 dollars and 282,000 dollars annually, depending on experience, skills, and location. Total compensation may also include bonus opportunities, equity, and a comprehensive benefits package.
