We are looking for a skilled and experienced Data Scientist to join our team at Cognitive3D as we explore spatial analytics from immersive experiences (VR/AR/MR). As a Data Scientist, you will be responsible for designing and implementing algorithms and models that can extract insights from large sets of data collected from immersive environments. You will work closely with our data science and platform engineering teams and provide them with data-driven insights that can help improve the applicability, performance and accuracy of our metrics.

Our Data Scientist will also have the opportunity to engage with customers and analyze datasets from games, entertainment and consumer facing applications.

Cognitive3D is a remote first organization. We welcome applicants from anywhere in Canada for this position.

The position will have the following responsibilities:

• Collect, process, and analyze large sets of data generated from immersive environments using statistical and machine learning techniques.
• Approach data with curiosity and craft stories that clearly communicate key insights to both internal and external stakeholders.
• Develop data visualizations, reports, and dashboards to communicate data insights to stakeholders and decision-makers.
• Work with a cross-functional team to develop, test, and design research related to metric development and validation.
• Work with the engineering team to operationalize analytic outputs that empower stakeholders with the tools needed to understand complex user behaviours.
• Design and implement algorithms and models that can extract insights and provide actionable recommendations to the development teams.
• Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in data science, VR analytics, inference, and machine learning techniques.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in relevant field required. A master’s or PhD in Psychology, Kinesiology (or other human movement related field), Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics is strongly preferred (or commensurate industry experience with 3D/VR/human movement domain knowledge).
• Proficiency in analytical programming languages (e.g., R, Python).
• Experience with statistical analysis, causal and bayesian inference, machine learning, data wrangling and validation, and data visualization.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with and/or familiarity with 3D data, human movement, or geospatial analytics.
• Experience with data storytelling and the ability to craft compelling visualizations.
• Experience with VR tools (Unity / Unreal Engine / game design) and big data are a plus.
• Research experience (designing and managing experiments, asking and answering research questions, hypothesis testing).
• The ideal candidate has a keen eye for detail, likes a good challenge, and enjoys finding creative solutions to hard problems.
