The Tax Manager is responsible for leading CesiumAstro’s tax compliance, tax accounting and reporting, and for working closely with external advisors to support tax planning and international tax compliance within a highly regulated aerospace and defense environment. This role will have significant exposure to federal, state, local, and international tax matters, including transfer pricing partnering closely with Finance, Accounting, Legal, and Program management teams.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage federal, state, local, and international income tax compliance including filings, extensions, and payments.
- Oversee indirect taxes, including sales/use, property, and excise taxes.
- Prepare and review income tax provision calculations and related disclosures in accordance with GAAP.
- Maintain accurate and complete tax documentation to support internal reviews, audits, and regulatory inquiries.
- Manage income tax accounting and reporting under ASC 740, including tax provisions, deferred tax calculations and reconciliations, and effective tax rate (ETR) analysis and forecasting.
- Prepare and review tax disclosures for Form 10-Q and Form 10-K.
- Partner with Accounting teams to ensure accurate tax impacts in financial reporting.
- Support Sox compliance related to tax processes, controls, and documentation.
- Work with external advisors to support the development and implementation of tax strategies & planning opportunities, including R&D tax credits, accounting method changes, entity structuring, expansions, credits and incentives.
- Partner with external advisors on transfer pricing studies and international tax planning as applicable.
- Partner with Finance, Accounting, Legal, and Program Management to support accurate financial reporting and contract execution.
- Coordinate and manage relationships with external tax advisors, auditors, and government agencies.
- Provide guidance and education to internal stakeholders on tax-related matters.
JOB REQUIREMENTS AND MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Minimum of 7-9 years of progressive tax experience in public accounting (Big 4 or similar) and/or in-house tax experience at a multinational company preferably in aerospace, defense, or regulated manufacturing, including 2–5 years in leadership/management experience.
- Experience working with enterprise ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, Oracle, SAP, or equivalent).
- Exposure to tax compliance and provision software (e.g., OneSource, Corptax, or similar tools).
- Ability to work with financial reporting and data analysis tools.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. federal, state, and local tax regulations.
- Understanding of GAAP tax accounting and ASC 740.
- Ability to translate complex tax concepts into practical business guidance.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel; working knowledge of Word and PowerPoint.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
- CPA, MST, or equivalent advanced certification.
- Familiarity with Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR), Cost Accounting Standards (CAS), and government contracting environments.
