About the Team
The Data Engineering team at Careem owns the governed, reliable, and performant data layer that powers every decision at Careem. We design, build, and operate the data warehouse, curated data marts, and real‑time pipelines that transform raw events into trusted, analytics‑ready datasets. As a member of this team, you will act as the bridge between raw data and actionable insight. You will partner closely with business, product, and analytics teams to model data that answers the toughest questions in mobility, delivery, and fintech while keeping our platform fast, reliable, and cost‑efficient.

What You'll Do

  • Lead the team technically in improving scalability, stability, accuracy, speed and efficiency of our existing Data systems
  • Work closely with business units and engineering teams to develop strategy for long term Data Platform architecture to be efficient, reliable and scalable
  • Conceptualize and own the data architecture for multiple large-scale projects, while evaluating design and operational cost-benefit trade-offs within systems
  • Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and data scientists to understand data needs, representing key data insights in a meaningful way
  • Develop, implement and enforce best practices for data infrastructure and automation
  • Design, develop and implement large scale, high volume, high performance data models and pipelines for Data Lake and Data Warehouse
  • Improve the reliability and scalability of our Ingestion, data processing, ETLs, Reporting tools and data ecosystem services
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve issues related to data quality, data consistency, and data integrity, ensuring the reliability and correctness of our data systems
  • Help onboard and support other engineers as they join the team

What You’ll Need

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of professional experience as a hands-on engineer and technical leader leading multiple projects
  • 6+ years experience working in data platform and data engineering or a similar role
  • Expertise in designing and managing large-scale data architectures, with proficiency with SQL, Python, and big data technologies like SparkSQL or Trino.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience with data visualization tools.
  • Proven ability to translate complex data into strategic insights.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, with a focus on continuous learning and improvement
