Senior Site Reliability Engineer

Bolt engineering teams are working on unique product challenges – complex algorithms for demand prediction, optimal real-time pricing, routing, fraud detection, distributed systems, and much more. Volumes are constantly growing. Our SRE teams are dealing with a range of different challenges, from managing our services that keep Bolt backend services running to optimizing our cloud infrastructure. The SRE Database Reliability team plays a foundational role across all Bolt’s business verticals, directly impacting the quality, resilience, and performance of all services and product lines at scale. Working with a cutting-edge distributed database stack, the team operates in a high-load, high–data-volume environment where each member can make a significant, company-wide impact.Location: Tallinn, Estonia

About the role

As a Senior Site Reliabiity Engineer at Bolt you will lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of highly reliable and scalable systems infrastructure, collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure system reliability, performance optimization, and continuous improvement.

Main tasks and responsibilities:

Leading the design, implementation, automation and maintenance of highly reliable and scalable Database Systems infrastructure. Planning for future database growth and scalability, ensuring the architecture supports business needs.
Participating in on-call activities for the most critical parts of the infrastructure, helping to solve incidents in a no-blaming culture.
Performing Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and leading incident response by compiling thorough postmortems and implementing preventive measures. Identifying performance bottlenecks and inefficiencies in the system and implementing solutions to optimize database configurations and performance, including SQL queries and indexes optimization.
Ensuring all core services are properly measured, monitored, and covered by alerting systems.
Work closely with engineering teams to design efficient schemas, perform query reviews, and provide guidance on database best practices.
Enforcing security best practices, managing access controls, and ensuring compliance with data governance policies and industry standards.

About you:

You have a proven practical track record in systems engineering.
You have solid experience working with Relational Database Management Systems (e.g. MySQL). Knowledge of NewSQL and NoSQL Databases is beneficial.
You have a strong command of Linux troubleshooting, including networking, file systems, security and the kernel, as well as a solid understanding of large-scale distributed systems.
You have good coding skills, preferably in Python/Go/Rust/Bash, experience with cloud platforms, such as AWS, and with infrastructure automation tools, such as Terraform and Ansible or alike.
You understand the DevOps and Scrum way of working. You are a team player with a high level of empathy and good communication skills, who works well with others in the group and the rest of the organization.
