At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!

This role is part of the Blue Origin Engines business unit, where our focus is the design, development, manufacturing, and testing of engines and propulsion systems. Built for multiple uses, our family of engines is powering the next generation of rockets for commercial, civil, national security, and human spaceflight.

As part of a small, passionate, and accomplished team, you will plan and execute environmental and EMI/EMC test campaigns for liquid rocket engine controllers. You will own requirements flow-down into test, operate sophisticated test systems, and lead issue resolution through disciplined root cause analysis. You will manage and track hardware configurations through the testing lifecycle. This role is highly cross-functional and will interface frequently with design engineering, systems engineering, and test labs.

Passion for our mission and vision is required: millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, own, and execute environmental and EMI/EMC test campaigns (e.g., risk reduction, acceptance, qualification) for engine controllers, including tailoring methods, levels, and configurations to program needs.
  • Plan test content and environmental conditions (e.g., shock, vibration, thermal/thermal cycling) and ensure adequate margin and coverage across campaigns.
  • Operate integrated test systems and coordinate with test equipment owners to ensure readiness and appropriate configurations for each campaign.
  • Collaborate with systems engineers to translate requirements into verification and validation plans and test procedures.
  • Write and develop test plans, procedures, and scripts; ensure traceability from requirements to test cases and to verification results.
  • Collect, reduce, and analyze test data; generate clear, complete test reports and present findings to engineering leadership and program stakeholders.
  • Lead or participate in structured Root Cause Analysis efforts and drive issues to closure.
  • Identify, track, and mitigate technical and execution risks; maintain test schedules and status throughout the campaign.
  • Interface effectively across multiple teams (design, systems, test labs, quality, program management) to align on objectives, resolve issues, and drive common goals to completion.
  • Maintain rigorous configuration control of test articles, setups, and test procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of relevant industry experience in hardware test, avionics, aerospace, defense, automotive, or similar environment.
  • Hands-on experience planning, executing, and documenting environmental tests to MIL STD 810 and EMI/EMC tests to MIL STD 461, or closely related standards.
  • Direct involvement in at least one significant environmental test campaign (Acceptance or Qualification), including test preparation, execution, and data review.
  • Familiarity with environmental test levels (shock, vibration, thermal/thermal cycling) and how they are derived and applied in a test campaign.
  • Experience using requirements management tools (e.g., DOORS, Jama) and applying them to V&V (verification and validation) planning and execution.
  • Experience operating integrated test systems, including:
    • Test racks and associated power/safety infrastructure
    • Data acquisition hardware and instrumentation
    • Working in a Linux environment for test control, logging, or automation
  • Demonstrated project management skills, including schedule creation and maintenance (e.g., Gantt charts), risk tracking, and status reporting.
  • Demonstrated experience with Root Cause Analysis tools (5 Whys, Fault Tree, Fishbone), and contributing meaningfully to structured failure investigations.
  • Strong organizational skills with proven ability to manage multiple tasks, configurations, and interfaces in parallel while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Basic understanding of electrical circuitry, including RLC fundamentals, sensor basics (e.g., pressure, temperature, position sensors), and their application within test systems.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with ability to work across disciplines and drive alignment toward common goals.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience testing engine controllers, power electronics, or flight/space avionics.
  • Experience leading a major RCA effort to resolution, including documentation and presentation of findings and corrective actions.
  • Experience developing or automating tests using Python, C/C++, MATLAB, or similar tools for control and data analysis.
  • Experience with configuration management tools, issue tracking (e.g., Jira), and revision control (e.g., Git).
  • Graduate degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
