This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.

In this role, you will lead a team of passionate, hardworking tooling engineers and designers dedicated to manufacturing, testing, and delivering hardware to both the Engines and New Glenn business units. You will need to be not only an inspiring people manager but also a skilled engineer with technical depth and intuition. You will look to set a bold technical direction, leading the team to solve ambitious manufacturing challenges by implementing groundbreaking manufacturing technology. This includes developing systems and processes that will enable your team to accomplish these goals with consistency and quality.

As an agile team leader, you will also be responsible for working closely with direct reports to develop goals and career paths, and lead roles, responsibilities, and accountability for each team member. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention toward safe and repeatable human spaceflight. Responsibilities:

  • Develop a team of tooling design engineers, including a path for personal and professional development
  • Prepare and deliver adhock and formal performance reviews
  • Report on tooling priorities, timelines and roadblocks to stakeholders and leadership
  • Balance competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Staffing management to ensure progress on all business unit & organizational needs
  • Drive engineering project execution, develop project plans, discuss technical trade-offs, manage risks, track and report on status, and resolve blocking issues
  • Support engineers with large-scale tooling solutions as needed
  • Assess the business case for all proposed upgrades to ensure robust return on investment
  • Investigate alternative requirements schemes that lead to system simplification and reduced costs
  • Focus on results-based planning along with a commitment to drive improvements for future process-based results
  • Perform conceptual and detailed design reviews of tooling and fixtures designed to assist in the manufacture of engine and flight components
  • Troubleshoot issues along with other technical and non-technical teammates

Qualifications:

  • B.S. Degree or higher required in mechanical, structural, aerospace, electrical, manufacturing or other relevant engineering field
  • 5+ years of experience with the design and integration of relevant mechanical systems (mechanisms, power transmission components, hydraulics, fluid systems, etc.), electrical systems/components, control systems, support frames/structures, and/or lifting fixtures.
  • Ability to prioritize work, setting and maintaining schedules and budgets to ensure project completion
  • Proven record of successful project completion
  • Understanding of tool and equipment commissioning, testing, qualification, and maintenance
  • Experience with CATIA, Siemens Unigraphics NX, or PTC Creo/Windchill
  • Experience with ANSYS Workbench, FEMAP Pre/Post processing, NASTRAN Solver, NX Advance Simulation, ProE Simulate/Mechanica, etc.

Desired:

  • Extensive managerial experience within an aerospace or equivalent industry
  • Strong expertise in design for manufacturability and design for assembly, including experience in taking products from initial development to rate production
  • Proven understanding of common manufacturing materials, GD&T, and tolerance/stack-up analysis
  • Experience with FEA analysis and hand calculations
  • Familiar with industry standards, such as ASME BTH-1, ASME B30.20, D17.1, D1.1, ASME Y14.5
  • Customer-focused with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Experience writing statements of work for systems and tools


Compensation Range for:

WA applicants is $136,230.00-$190,720.95

  • Required for certain Job Profiles: Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential, which includes pre-employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical
