This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.Collaborate with the Lunar ZBO (Zero Boil Off) team to develop and analyze the design and fluid dynamics of the cryocooler, specifically for zero-boiloff applications. We are seeking someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and dedication to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. Passion for our mission and vision is required!
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Assist in the design and thermal/fluid analysis of cryocooler and test asset components
Effectively communicate analytical results and effects of design changes on component and system performance
Assist in developing test plans and procedures for component, subsystem, and coordinated cryocooler testing in collaboration with ZBO and other Blue Origin test facilities
Complete test procedures involving pressurized cryogenic and non-cryogenic fluid systems
Review and interpret test data to assess performance and health both at the system and component level
Contribute to or author test reports
Conduct component- and system-level thermodynamic analyses and trade studies for design optimization
Collaborate with structural and manufacturing engineers to optimize component design and interfaces
Demonstrate that system and component designs meet relevant requirements
Participate in gated design and test readiness reviews
Ensure work is completed in accordance with Blue Origin policies and procedures
Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in mechanical, civil, aerospace, or aeronautical engineering
2+ years’ experience with fluid/thermal system development and testing
Understanding systems using hydrogen, oxygen, helium, nitrogen, and water, with fluid/thermal analysis skills
Outstanding written and interpersonal communication abilities
Eager to take initiative and lead project ownership
Dedicated to maintaining and promoting a culture of safety
Preferred Qualifications:
Over three years of experience in fluid system development and testing within research and development facilities
Proficiency in one of the ensuing areas: Cryogenic fluid systems, Analysis of thermodynamic cycles, Development, evaluation, and validation of heat exchangers, Development, evaluation, and validation of turbomachines, Pressurized gas systems, or Vacuum systems.
Proficient in fluid and thermal analysis using software tools such as ANSYS, Thermal Desktop, or MATLAB
Experience throughout the product development cycle, including multiple phases of development
Skilled in component qualification for spaceflight
Experienced in operating test equipment and managing hazardous materials safely
Capable of understanding complex systems, solving exciting problems, and excelling in a dynamic work environment
Proficient in developing, writing, and updating technical procedures, standards, and specifications

Compensation Range for:
WA applicants is $96,310.00-$134,833.65Other site ranges may differ

Required for certain Job Profiles: Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential, which includes pre-employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical
