This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Facilities, and Security, and Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.

As part of a diverse and hardworking team of specialists, you will work closely with engineering design to support all manufacturing efforts for engines. As a Manufacturing Engineer, you will translate engineering intent, drawings, and configurations into work instructions that will produce high quality hardware. Throughout the manufacturing process, you will also identify, develop, and deploy methods to improve quality, reduce cost, and optimize the build sequence and schedules. You will share in the team’s impact on all aspects of the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Identify, develop, and deploy new manufacturing methods (or refine existing) to improve quality, reduce cost, and optimize build schedule.
  • Define how to prepare hardware for test, qualification, and flight.
  • Translate engineering intent, drawings, and configurations into fully functional hardware.
  • Develop manufacturing work instructions to clearly define the following manufacturing process: receiving inspection, fabrication, assembly, integration, test, and refurbishment.
  • Create in-build redlines and recommend engineering changes to improve design.
  • Design proper material handling and packaging to protect hardware throughout the build and test process.
  • Conduct DFM (Design for Manufacturing) and PFMEA (Process Failure Mode and Effect Analysis) studies to strengthen the feedback loop between design and manufacturing.
  • Perform engineering drawing review and provide final approval for manufacturing.
  • Define, disposition, and support non-conformance repair and rework activities.
  • Perform root cause analyses when non-conformances and escapes are identified and deploy corrective actions
  • Manage hardware configuration and maintain pedigree throughout the entire process.
  • Safely work within an industrial environment

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Aerospace Engineering, or other relevant experience
  • 1+ years of manufacturing experience developing manufacturing process requirements
  • Ability to interpret engineering models, drawings, specifications, written work instructions, and test procedures
  • Experience with designing, measuring, modifying, and monitoring processes
  • Ability to communicate clearly and appropriately at all levels of the organization
  • Blueprint reading skills including GD&T per ASME Y14.5M-1994 standard
  • Detail-oriented and self-motivated individual capable of prioritizing work to meet project completion dates
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with component-level fabrication processes (machining, grinding, forging, welding, casting, etc.)
  • Familiar with hard metals, casting, and 3D printed components
  • Familiar with applicable industry standards
  • Excellent technical writing, grammar, and presentation experience
