As part of a small, hardworking, passionate, diverse, and accomplished team of experts, you will be responsible for composite testing in the M&P Labs.

The M&P Lab Engineering team develops laboratory standard operating procedures and On-the-job-training (OJT’s); partners closely with Process Engineering to develop in-process verification test processes; executes standard materials testing; partners closely with Operations Engineering to rapidly resolve Operations issues and support non-standard testing; and partners closely with other M&P Engineering teams and Program stakeholders.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Define and drive composite testing requirements to support Operations, R&D, and Operations Non-Conformances; perform post-testing engineering evaluation; and perform hands on testing of composite materials
  • Review, troubleshoot, diagnose, and correct laboratory nonconformances by modification, rework, repair, and/or maintenance. Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for recurrence control
  • Develop new processes for composite mechanical and thermal testing. Support manufacturing engineering team with developing test instructions.
  • Provide composite consulting for M&P and Production Teams
  • Develop and establish On Job Training requirements for composite mechanical and thermal testing processes.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement projects for area safety and efficiency
  • Other duties as assigned or otherwise beneficial to fulfilling the mission and vision

Minimum Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Materials Engineering, or related field.
  • 5-10 years of experience in laboratory environment, preferably in support of manufacturing
  • Expertise with composite testing and manufacturing
  • Experience conducting composite mechanical and thermal testing
  • Experience conducting adhesive material rheology testing
  • Proficient in CAD software (Catia, AutoCAD etc)
  • Ability to interpret engineering models, drawings, specifications, written work instructions, and test procedures
  • Understanding of quality assurance and familiarity with the requirements of ISO 17025 and NADCAP accreditation and maintenance.
  • Proven experience with laboratory evaluation techniques
  • Ability to work effectively with a strong work ethic and close attention to detail in a fast-paced dynamic team environment with rapidly changing roles and responsibilities
  • Working knowledge of ASTM standards for mechanical and thermal characterization methods
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive project and task execution to meet or beat scheduled need dates
  • Extremely customer focused with strong verbal and written communication skills
  • A demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with teams of diverse skills across large geographic distances
  • A continuous improvement mindset. Our job is never complete; we are always optimizing
  • Work off-shift, extended hours overtime, and weekends if/when necessary
  • Exceptional organizational and analytical skills and a proven ability to drive complex projects with minimal oversight
  • Ability to handle multiple decisions based on workload dispersion, program priorities and management and customer decisions
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Material Engineering, or related field
  • Working knowledge of load frames (MTS and Instron)
  • Fluency in the operation and interpretation of thermal and rheologttesting (Thermogravimetric Analyzer, Dynamic Mechanical Analyzer, Differential Scanning Calorimetry, Rheometer, Viscometer, etc.)
  • Deep understanding of non-destructive testing methods
  • Understanding of NADCAP and ISO9001 requirements
  • Experience with aerospace production programs and/or test labs
