Blue Origin is quickly standing up a new rocket engine manufacturing line in Huntsville, AL. This engine will land people on the moon. We are in search of a Programmer/Machinist that can perform under minimal supervision the following: use cam software to create and develop CNC programs, set up and operate CNC controlled machines, produce small and large batches of parts anywhere from metal, plastics, and composites to print.

Responsibilities:

  • Preforms all tasks in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Read and understand blueprints.
  • Fully understands GD&T.
  • Use CAM software to create CNC programs.
  • Determine order of operations on a part.
  • Select proper tooling and cutting speeds and feeds for various materials.
  • Determine if fixturing is required and design as well.
  • Use of gages and measuring instruments to meet tolerance requirements.
  • Use of precision tool, machinery and equipment such as CNC lathe, mills, 5 axis, and a variety of cutting tools and equipment.
  • Fabricates and shapes parts 5 Axis parts out of Exotic metals
  • Properly and safely selects, aligns, secures and removes holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories and materials onto machines.
  • Recognizes, deploys and properly uses inserts, fixtures and tooling.
  • Preforms daily and regular cleaning including light maintenance tasks on machinery and equipment.
  • Evaluate experimental procedures and recommends change or modifications for efficiency and adaptability to setup CNC production.
  • Track parts and labor into a MRP system.
  • Read and understand CNC code.
  • Make minor adjustments to CNC programs.
  • Load CNC programs and safely run through first part.
  • Adjust speeds and feeds to obtain optimal cutting conditions.
  • Complies with all quality and company policies, specifications, regulations and instructions.

Qualifications

  • ​Four to six years of related CNC experience along with five of them in programming.
  • High school diploma or GED required along with trade school.
  • Use of CAM software preferably with NX (Unigraphics)
  • Extensive knowledge cutting all metals, in the areas of cutting speeds, tooling selections, and machining approaches.
  • Effectively communicate and understands job instructions both verbally and written.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical computations in the concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical of diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. when required, use of an overhead crane, forklift, stand for long periods of time, vision requirements will include close, distance, color, depth perception, and focus.
  • Computer skills.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Desired:

  • NX 12 CAM or higher experience preferred
  • Nickel based alloys, copper, Ti experience
  • Vericut or other program verification software experience
  • Experience operating heavy lifting equipment such as cranes and forklifts around flight critical hardware
  • CMM programming/operation
  • Faro arm experience
