Thermal Protection System Technician II (Weekend Day Shift)

As part of a diverse and hardworking team of technicians, you will assist with the setup of the production work areas, including layouts, tooling, and equipment setup for various spaceflight systems. You will share in the team’s impact on all aspects of the transition from development to production.
In this position, you will be responsible for manufacturing various thermal protection systems (TPS) for New Glenn flight hardware according to written procedures, engineering models, drawings, and specifications. You will be responsible for operating various material-handling equipment including forklifts. You will perform second-party verifications and hardware inspections of engineering models, drawings, specifications, and written procedures.

This position will require shift flexibility to align with changes in business need. Shift schedules are outlined below:
A Shift: Monday-Thursday 5:00AM-3:30PM
B Shift: Monday-Thursday 3:00PM-1:30AM
C Shift: Friday-Sunday 5:00AM-5:30PM
Responsibilities:
Responsible for the manufacture of thermal protection systems (TPS) through multiple processes including adhesive bonding, heat cleaning, waterproofing, CNC quilting, material processing, inspection, and packaging.
Perform surface preparation, fixturing, adhesive application, material selection, and preparation.
Adhering to operational requirements, methods, and sequences of operation to be followed in operating CNC machinery and CO2 lasers and in the required maintenance of process equipment.
Read and quickly develop a full understanding of work instructions, records databases, and process specifications controlling the manufacturing processes.
Perform tasks assigned in the manufacturing processes while maintaining strict adherence to process specifications and work instructions.
Complete all process qualifications required for the position promptly.
Continuous personal efforts toward maintaining the safety, 5s, and FOD controls, quality, and process improvement.
Maintain a positive attitude in difficult or stressful situations.
Personal commitment to build strong working relationships in support of the team’s efforts to achieve goals set before them.
Ability and willingness to work in an environment with safely controlled exposure to solvents, chemicals, and respiratory hazards, wearing and maintaining safe use of respirators, PAPRS, and protective gloves and clothing.
Commitment to work 1st, 2nd, or set weekend shifts and overtime as required. This position will also require the ability to work shift rotations when specified to meet the schedule and may require off-site travel for up to 30-day periods.
Qualifications:
This is a weekend day shift. Fri-Sun 6 AM-6:30PM

Experience working in an aerospace manufacturing or other manufacturing environment with strict quality and configuration controls.
Proven expertise in one or more of the following: two-part RTV bonding, operation of CNC machinery, CO2 Lasers, chemical spray mixing and application, vacuum infusion, automated systems operation and troubleshooting, and Hazardous waste treatment and handling.
Experience applying sealants, conversion coatings, primers, and adhesives.
Must be able to be respirator qualified.
Ability to work, listen, learn, and mentor in return, respectfully and cooperatively with diverse teams in a dynamic environment.
Ability to interpret engineering models, drawings, specifications, written work instructions, and test procedures.
Basic computer skills such as Windows, Microsoft Office, etc.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Perform repetitive work including lifting of heavy items, >50lbs.
Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Desired:
3+ Years of experience working with aerospace thermal protection systems.
Experience with fundamentals of aerospace quality inspection, and peer-to-peer inspection processes.
Industry certification, trade school training, and/or degree in a related field.
Demonstrated success as a “hands-on” technical leader or technical skills mentor.
Evident track record of a strong work ethic close attention to detail, and organizational skills in a fast-paced dynamic team environment with rapidly changing roles and responsibilities.
Continuous improvement mindset. Our job is never complete; we are always refining and improving.
Intense curiosity for understanding the details of our business and how to optimize it.
Experience in processing aerospace components, maintaining configuration control and documentation.
Experience in new product development and qualification processes.
