This role is part of the Blue Origin Engines business unit, where our focus is the design, development, manufacturing, and testing of engines and propulsion systems. Built for multiple uses, our family of engines is powering the next generation of rockets for commercial, civil, national security, and human spaceflight.
As part of a hardworking team of diverse engineers, you will support thermal, vibration and shock testing of rocket engine components. You will have significant contributions in the areas of component specification, component selection, tool design, testing, and delivering hardware for the BE-4 rocket engine programs. This position requires versatility, technical ability, effective communication and strong project management skills.
We work with the designers, systems engineers, and analysts to plan and perform development and qualification test campaigns of cryogenic, pressurized, pneumatic and electro-mechanical flight hardware and assemblies to meet an aggressive development schedule. We plan and supervise thermal, vibration, shock and vacuum testing on development and flight hardware.
We are looking for someone that understands environmental testing, testing of pressurized pneumatic and hydraulic components as well as avionics, electro-mechanical hardware and data acquisition systems. This includes supporting cryogenic, thermal, vibration, vacuum, shock and mechanically simulated pyroshock testing for all rocket engine components for both development and production testing.
To be successful in this role you will need to ensure component standardization across programs, where appropriate; oversee environmental testing of components within our test facilities; and conduct data reviews and prepare reports to ensure successful component qualification.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Complete ownership of the Environmental Test Plan for the BE-4 engine program
- Work with design, analysis, systems engineering, and launch vehicle customers to define optimal verification plan and test requirements for engine components for all life-cycle phases of design, development, test and flight.
- Review verification records (test plans, test reports, analysis reports, inspection reports, etc.) to ensure the appropriate rigor and ensure the test program is executed in alignment with system requirements
- Act as the negotiator between multiple and sometimes conflicting interests in order to make sure the test program as a whole is optimized
- Participate and guide system design and development at all stages of development lifecycle, beginning with requirements capture and flow-down, through preliminary design, critical design, product realization, design verification testing, system integration, qualification, certification, and delivery
- Effectively communicate development status, risks, and challenges
Minimum Qualifications:
- B.S. degree or higher in Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering or other relevant field.
- 5+ years of relevant technical experience including developing, producing, and executing test procedures
- Desire to work hands-on, as part of a team, in both development, test and production phases of a product lifecycle
- Experience related to cryogenic fluid systems and high pressure gaseous systems
- Experience with Environmental Testing (proof, leak, vibration, thermal, etc.) per SMC-S-016, MIL-STD-1540D or MIL-STD-810G.
- Experience with failure investigations
- Experience leading simultaneous projects.
- Strong written, personal, and computer skills. Ability to communicate clearly and appropriately at the executive leadership level and on the shop floor.
- Demonstrated familiarity with data analysis, processing and reduction techniques.
- Strong work ethic with a high attention to detail and level of organization.
- Passion for spaceflight and space exploration.
- Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion

Preferred Qualifications:
- 7+ years of applicable experience in component development and testing
- Operational understanding of engines and engine sub-components, such as turbopumps, combustion devices, valves, and other fluid components
- Experience with data acquisition and automation systems (LABVIEW, NI TestStand, etc.).
- Strong technical fundamentals in fluids, thermodynamics, vibroacoustics, and mechanical and electrical components
- Experience designing, fabricating, or operating fluid systems
- Knowledge of instrumentation including pressure transducers, thermocouples, silicon diodes, resistance temperature detectors, and accelerometers
Compensation Range for:
CA applicants is $111,690.00-$156,366.00;WA applicants is $111,690.00-$156,366.00Other site ranges may differ
