This role is part of the New Shepard program. New Shepard is a reusable suborbital rocket system crafted to take astronauts and research payloads past the Kármán line – the internationally recognized boundary of space. Through operational reusability, New Shepard supports our mission of lowering the cost of access to space!
As part of a diverse and hardworking team of specialists, you will own the software product lifecycle management plan including the creation and updating of any processes required to support the execution of the plan. You will facilitate software deployment, release, and configuration management and control for various spaceflight systems. You will provide essential contributions to the team’s impact on all aspects of software configuration management for each phase of the development lifecycle. You will be expected to lead software design integration within the overall vehicle configuration. You will lead regular technical configuration reviews to align software development and change activities, including code, requirements and software version control. You will review Software Change packages for technical completeness and support their review at change control board. Other duties will include guiding multi-functional teams through the software change process; supporting the resolution of integration issues with lead engineers and their respective teams; and developing or managing control documents associated with interface definitions between subsystems.

For this role, you should have an understanding or experience of:
- Systems Engineering principles & processes.
- Software architecture
- Software development processes
- Software baselines and release processes within software repositories & artifact releases in hardware PLM repositories
- Software artifacts traceability management,
- SW/HW integration & quality management,
- Problem reporting, including tracking of problem reports against specific baselines/releases,
- Corrective actions for problem reports,
- Software Change control,
- Preferred familiarity w/ both Subversion and Git version control systems,
- Technical & administrative work in change control boards (CCBs),
- Change analysis and status accounting,
- Software load control,
- Software lifecycle environment control.
Responsibilities:
- Integrate systems engineering into SW product lifecycle management.
- Own the SW product lifecycle management plan and requirements
- Develop or improve the processes required to support the strategy and meet the requirements
- Ensure that the configuration supports major design reviews and the integration landmarks
- Review software change packages for technical completeness
- Maintain and report on development activities and technical issues
- Ensure team alignment to the configuration management standards
- Support process of developing system requirements, flow down, and verification planning
- Clear communication and collaboration with all development teams involved on projects
- Collaboration across organizations, leading by influence.
Minimum Qualifications:
- B.S. degree in engineering and 5+ years proven ability in aerospace, medical devices, automotive, or other regulated industries
- Industry experience in Systems Engineering tools and processes
- Experience with the software development lifecycle and associated configuration management processes used for highly integrated and complex products
- Proven ability to work optimally and collaborate in a dynamic, fast paced, team-oriented environment
- Demonstrated configuration control experience on recently developed software and hardware products from early trade studies through final design and into manufacturing and test, maintenance and sustaining.
- Familiar with configuration engineering in safety critical or standards-compliant projects.
- Engineering review and ownership of multiple configuration variants of a common design baseline.
- Oversight of changes to an operating system with varying effectivity across multiple products
- Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
Preferred Qualifications:
- M.S. degree in engineering and 8+ years in aerospace, medical devices, automotive, or other related industry
- Experience with development tools such as DOORS, MATLAB/Simulink, Confluence, JIRA, Git, Creo, and Windchill
- Familiar with both hardware and software development processes for complex software embedded systems
- Knowledge of current systems engineering and integration tools and methodologies
Compensation Range for:
CA applicants is $141,480.00-$198,072.00;CO applicants is $129,690.00-$181,566.00;WA applicants is $141,480.00-$198,072.00Other site ranges may differ
