This role is part of the New Shepard program. New Shepard is a reusable suborbital rocket system designed to take astronauts and research payloads past the Kármán line – the internationally recognized boundary of space. Through operational reusability, New Shepard supports our mission of lowering the cost of access to space.

As part of a hardworking team of diverse engineers, you will support the New Shepard Training Simulator team in the following areas:

  • Drive and actively contribute to full life-cycle technical development of physics-based simulation models and configuration management of the New Shepard Training Simulator supporting
  • Collaborate with team leads to manage scope, schedule, and budget
  • Support multi-functional systems analyses to drive architectural decisions
  • Take ownership of longterm goals of the Training Simulator

The ideal candidate for this role should be comfortable working in a fast-paced and sometimes uncertain environment while contributing to innovative solutions and demonstrating personal leadership, technical competence, and attention to detail. The candidate must be willing to take ownership and support mission critical software used to train Launch Crews. Additionally, a strong passion for the mission and vision of the organization is essential.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in an Engineering related field
  • 3+ proven years in physics-based simulation modeling
  • Expertise with MATLAB, Simulink, and autocode generation and verification
  • Comfortable with programming languages such as C++ and Python
  • Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills
  • Curiosity and drive to learn about a variety of different subjects to support our broad modeling scope
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven knowledge in designing, modeling, testing, and flying aerospace GNC systems
  • Knowledge of multi-body dynamics, flexible body dynamics, gas dynamics, fluids, actuated systems, thermodynamics, and/or fluid slosh
  • Experience in Configuration Management
  • Experience owning a software product
  • Experience using Gitlab and continuous integration tools
  • Experience designing and evaluating Monte Carlo simulations, hardware-in-the-loop, and software-in-the-loop testing
  • Experience supporting flight testing or launch operations
  • Experience with project planning tools (JIRA, Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, etc.)


Compensation Range for:

WA applicants is $109,980.00-$153,972.00

Other site ranges may differ

Paid Time Off: Up to four (4) weeks per year based on weekly scheduled hours, and up to 14 company-paid holidays.
