As part of a hardworking team of diverse specialists, technicians, engineers, you will develop the tooling, jigs, and fixtures used to test, manufacture, and assemble space and launch vehicles. You will share in the team’s impact on all aspects of the manufacturing by providing rapid tooling support for emergent production needs. You will work directly with the manufacturing team to create, test, and troubleshoot new tooling and processes. You will be responsible for designing, analyzing, fabricating, testing, and integrating tooling and ground support equipment. You will also represent your system(s) in cross-functional trades and impact studies for architectures, tests, and vehicles that you support. You should expect that this foundational part of our vision will require your excellent communication and teamwork.

Responsibilities:

  • End-to-End ownership of Tooling/GSE hardware for rapid development and manufacturing that support processing of various in-space hardware.
  • Coordinate directly with Assembly, Integration and Test team to understand build process and develop GSE to meet those requirements.
  • Create design, performance, fabrication specifications, acceptance test procedures, and maintenance plans, for development of GSE and tooling internally and/or externally.
  • Create and modify CAD models, assemblies, and drawings for tools, fixtures, jigs, structures, mechanisms, and all GSE hardware for rapid prototyping and production using Creo & Windchill.
  • Manage external design and fabrication partners through complete project lifecycle to ensure GSE and tooling is functionally correct and meets requirements set forth in specifications.
  • Coordinates with technical personnel to plan and support GSE and tooling maintenance activities to ensure equipment availability and operational safety.
  • Participate in manufacturing, operational, and program technical reviews to provide GSE and tooling input and considerations.
  • Create, present, and implement new fabrication techniques that clearly conveys design intent, requirements, and specifications.

Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Aerospace, Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related.
  • Successful candidates in this role typically have 6+ years of related experience.
  • Deep understanding of design & engineering principles and manufacturing.
  • Experience with Space, aerospace, automotive, or launch vehicles structures and mechanisms.
  • Proficiency in CAD programs (Creo preferred) and data management (Windchill preferred).
  • Experience in standard fits, tolerance stack, and GD&T analysis (ASME Y14.5).
  • Proven ability to drive complex projects to completion.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast paced, dynamic work environment.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Desired:

  • Experience in designing tools, jigs, fixtures, structures, and mechanisms.
  • Finite Element Analysis (ANSYS or others).
  • Experience work on aerospace development programs, production lines, or field operations in both design and hands-on roles.
  • Experience on commercial development programs is a plus.
  • Experience with hands on prototyping, fabrication, assembly, or maintenance operations
  • Experience with revision control and data configuration.
  • Experience with requirements management (DNG preferred)
