This role is a part of the Test & Flight Operations team, providing centralized support to business units with a focus on the design, build, and maintenance of the ground systems, test, and launch facilities across multiple locations.

As part of a small, passionate, and accomplished team, you will support the development, construction, operation, and maintenance of liquid rocket engine test facilities for various spaceflight systems. You will contribute to the team’s progress by participating in all aspects of hands-on engineering and project management. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention toward safe and repeatable spaceflight. This position is based in Van Horn, TX. Being at the heart of Blue Origin operations, the West Texas Site in Van Horn, TX offers eligible employees additional attractive financial incentives to supplement their competitive base earnings, including a living allowance and relocation assistance. Eligibility for these additional benefits is based on the employee’s ability to permanently relocate to Van Horn, TX, or travel to Van Horn from another Blue location a minimum of 50% of the time.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Design, construct, operate, and maintain test facilities to support the development and production of liquid rocket engines

    o Generate and execute test procedures involving high-pressure gas systems and cryogenic and non-cryogenic fluid systems

    o Review and interpret test data to assess facility health and performance both at the system and component level

    o Specify and procure components and materials; manage vendors and subcontractors

    o Plan and oversee facility maintenance and/or construction for new facility capabilities

    o Contribute to schedule, configuration, quality, cost, and process safety management

  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvements to promote workplace safety, meet demanding schedules, and secure cost savings.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS degree in engineering or related field

  • 1-10+ years of experience in relevant industrial applications or similar test facilities. Candidates with various levels of experience are welcome to apply.

  • Strong background in fluid dynamics and thermodynamics

  • Identify opportunities for safety improvements, cost savings, and process development

  • Demonstrate Engineering leadership by providing guidance and mentorship to other team members

  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated technical expertise in liquid rocket engine test stand design, operation and maintenance:

    o Pressurized Gas Systems

    o Cryogenic Fluid Systems, specifically LH2, LOx, LNG, and LN2

    o Instrumentation or DAC systems

    o Liquid rocket propulsion systems

  • Demonstrated expertise in the following:

    o Working with technicians to perform work on test facilities, handle test articles, and lead test operations

    o Performing process hazard and root cause analyses

    o Sizing, selecting, and troubleshooting fluid system components and instrumentation

    o Operating, troubleshooting, and writing software for data acquisition and control systems

  • Familiar with the following software:

    o LabVIEW

    o AutoCAD P&ID

    o Winplot

    o Windchill

    o Creo
