This role is part of the Blue Origin Engines business unit, where our focus is the design, development, manufacturing, and testing of engines and propulsion systems. Built for multiple uses, our family of engines is powering the next generation of rockets for commercial, civil, national security, and human spaceflight and Mission Assurance team.

As part of a small, passionate and accomplished team of experts, you will lead our BE-7 Engine Test Integrated Product Team (IPT). Our engines are being developed to support affordable, low-cost access to space. This role will manage the Engine Test Process, IPT scope, schedule and resources required for development and production, manage upgrades & improvements, ensure certification for flight and support our commercial operations. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe, repeatable and low-cost spaceflight!

Responsibilities:

  • Report directly to the Engines BE-7 Program Manager (PM) and be accountable for planning, execution and on-time delivery of test scope as delegated by the PM.
  • Own the overall engine test lifecycle of product from product development and test planning to qualification, certification and production.
  • Lead the cross functional team to achieve the Engine Test IPT scope by providing programmatic leadership. Collaborate with the resource owners to manage the BE-7 Engine Test team workload.
  • Establish and maintain regular business rhythm, consistent review products, action tracking, and consolidate information for effective decision making, including maintaining and routinely reporting performance to plan on schedule, resources, product cost, and technical performance metrics for program and company level reviews.
  • Deliver test program status updates to program manager, customer and Engines Leadership
  • Maintain robust documentation of your approved program scope & deliverables, ensuring scope and execution priorities are clearly communicated across all Blue Origin supporting organizations, and you/your team facilitate alignment of the resource needs, resource availability.
  • Develop, own and support the maintenance of a resource loaded schedule and ensure resource demands are loaded into the appropriate forecasting and management systems.
  • Facilitate support from Blue Origin Support Functions: Operations, Integrated Supply Chain (ISC), Test and Flight Operations (TFO), Safety Quality and Mission Assurance (SQ&MA) and other support organizations.
  • Build relationships between test sites at the Air Force Research Lab (AFRL), Launch Site One. and the component engineering team, which will require frequent, and at times extended travel to both sites.
  • Work with Chief Engineering, Engines & Vehicle engineering & design teams to identify and resolve technical issues across the product lifecycle.
  • Find opportunities for test plan optimizations for both cycle time and cost reductions.
  • Responsible for engine development and qualification plans and reports.
  • Accountable for high quality test readiness reviews, pre-test planning, test execution, post-test data review and post-test reporting.
  • Support your IPT implement requirement decomposition and allocation, systems engineering, technical design, analysis and verification/ validation, and management of internal/ external engine interfaces and support engine ground test and flight operations.
  • Lead program risk management processes, tracking and implementation of mitigation plans across all programmatic measures including cost, schedule and technical performance and drive to an acceptable level.

Qualifications:

  • Desire to lead and manage small teams on fast-paced hardware and flight projects.
  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in Engineering or technical field, or in lieu of a technical degree, must show significant demonstrated experience leading teams designing/ developing or testing complex engineered products.
  • 5+ years of experience in designing/developing/testing complex engineered mechanical products, ideally within aerospace.
  • 2+ years of project management exposure.
  • Excellent understanding of the development test process in space or aerospace industries.
  • Demonstrated technical expertise in space qualified liquid rocket engines, fluid/mechanical systems, systems engineering, integration, and/or test.
  • Experience with budget management and reporting.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Desire to support customer and internal Blue executive interaction.

  • Experience with resource/budget management and reporting.
  • Experience with logic linked scheduling.
  • Experience with IMP/IMS, risk management, configuration management, requirements management processes.
  • Experience across multiple portions of the product life cycle.
  • Experience with rocket engine development and test.
  • Experience with human spaceflight or high-performance aircraft systems.
  • Experience with Primavera (P6), DOORS, CREO, Windchill.

Compensation range for on site WA applicants is $123,480-$172,872
