Sr. Program Manager - New Glenn Mechanical Systems

This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration, heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond. Its first stage is fully reusable, and the vehicle was designed from the beginning to be human-capable.

As the Senior Program Manager for New Glenn Stage 1 Mechanical Systems, you will join the GS1 team in supporting all aspects of product execution. This position is responsible for driving and reporting progress through the product value chain, including design maturation, make/buy assessments, procurement, manufacturing, assembly, and integration. In addition, you will develop and maintain business operations analytics to improve schedule/cost/performance assessments. This role is deeply interdisciplinary and requires coordination among a diverse group team members.

New Glenn Stage 1 is one of the largest purpose-built reusable rocket stages in the history of spaceflight and the backbone of Blue Origin’s Road to space. Coupled with the expendable second stage, the New Glenn Launch system provides customers with outstanding payload launch capabilities. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedication and attention towards safe and reliable spaceflight.

Responsibilities:

  • Routine collaboration with design engineers, project managers, schedule planners, supply chain managers, and business leaders.
  • In coordination with partners above: define, implement, and maintain key program metrics/dashboards related to schedule, cost, and performance management.
  • Develop and present content for senior executive reviews including weekly business reviews (WBRs), monthly business reviews (MBRs), and program management reviews (PMRs).
  • Deep understanding of product value chain to advise both simple and creative schedule mitigation plans.
  • Work with Supply Chain and Program leadership to drive procurement execution strategies that reduce cost and improve delivery performance.
  • Partner with Operations Strategy to assess/drive production rate increase readiness.
  • Coordinate across Finance, Supply Chain, and Engineering organizations to drive cost/labor management strategies to meet program budget targets and reduce program cost variance.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • B.S or M.S. in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, or systems engineering and experience with launch vehicle development, production, and operations.
  • Highly organized leader with proven track record of resourcefulness, strong business discernment, and bias for action.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills to influence a variety of direct and indirect partners.
  • Proven track record of success in a matrix-aligned organization including ability to deliver results through others as an individual contributor.
  • Strong experience with business analytics and knowledge of data structures/analysis.
  • Comfortable working in a fast paced, multifaceted work environment and ability to travel in support of the program, customer, and supplier activities.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and strengthen our culture of inclusion.
  • Strong technical background or technical writing experience.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Experience:

  • 5+ years of applicable professional experience.
  • MBA
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification and Earned Value Management System (EVMS) experience. Experience with critical path scheduling, IMP/IMS, risk management, requirements management and Cost Account Management such as EVM.
  • Management consulting experience.
  • Strong business management competence and experience managing large, geographically dispersed programs with large subcontractors.
