As part of a diverse and hardworking team of engineers and specialists, you will be responsible for developing and supporting the New Glenn rocket composite manufacturing processes. New Glenn is a single configuration heavy-lift launch vehicle capable of carrying people and payloads routinely to Earth orbit and beyond. Featuring a reusable first stage built for 25 missions, New Glenn will build a road to space. You will directly support New Glenn’s as well as Blue Origin’s success through leading the qualification and build of large scale composite parts at external vendors, design for manufacturability, non-conformance processing, and development and improvement of process specifications. Throughout the manufacturing process, you will also identify, develop, and deploy methods to improve quality, reduce cost, and optimize build sequence and schedules.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage configuration, quality, and schedule for flight and development hardware internally and at external suppliers
  • Support qualification of vendors to implement new processes and hardware, including tooling and equipment reviews
  • Review vendor documentation to ensure compliance to hardware requirements
  • Coordinate response to nonconformances at external vendors, including root cause analysis and corrective actions
  • Prioritize hardware procurement and coordinate build priorities
  • Work with design team to ensure manufacturability of new hardware
  • Support development of new and robust manufacturing processes and transition into production
  • Travel to support internal and external production up to 20% of the time

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, Chemical, Aerospace Engineering or relevant field from ABET accredited school
  • Familiarity with composites and related materials (prepregs, fibers, resins, cores, adhesives, coatings, etc.)
  • Hands-on experience, including composite fabrication experience
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills to balance small and large projects with a a diverse group of customers
  • Ability to work cooperatively with teams of diverse skills across large geographic distances.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.
  • Strong written, personal, technical, and software skills (CAD, Scheduling, Issue Tracking, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc).
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Desired:

  • Experience with aircraft, launch vehicle, spacecraft, or satellite development, production, or operations
  • Experience with polymer based composite fabrication process development and process qualification
  • Involvement with vendor qualification and procedure reviews
  • Experience defining and procuring composite fabrication tooling
  • Experience with design for manufacturing and engineering drawing review
  • Experience with root cause analyses and corrective actions
  • Experience working with external vendors
  • Experience with composite repair
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD programs (Creo Pro/E & Catia preferred).
