NOTE: This position is eligible to be REMOTE and the successful candidate will work from a home-based office and travel to our customer sites.

Position Overview:


As the Customer Technical Services Specialist, you’re a key member of the Global Quality Team, reporting to the Senior Manager, Customer Technical Services (CTS). You will contribute to the success of Ball by training, observing, auditing, adjusting, making independent decisions & recommendations for customer equipment.
You will perform adjustments, as needed to prevent quality claims and train customer how to sustain equipment health.

  • Mid-south ( IN, OH, MD, TN, VA, etc.)
  • Midwest (i.e. MN, IA, IL, ND, etc)
    Southeast (i.e. AL, GA, FL, etc.)
  • Southwest (i.e. TX, OK, AZ, CA, etc.)

Your Key Areas of Responsibilities Include:

  • Conduct customer line health audits and seam checks on a regular basis; adjusting as needed and performing tooling changes if required.
  • Audit and advise customers on their equipment as a industry expert (seamers as primary, fillers, cappers, crowners, pasteurizers, etc) and execute product monitoring and support qualifications.
  • Participate in quality assurance for new product development, provide competitive, and customer, intelligence to the commercial organization.
  • Serve as subject matter expert relating to customer equipment (seamers as primary, fillers, cappers, crowners, tunnel/flash pasteurization, auto lid feed, retort, hot fill, etc) engineering, operation in association with all Ball products with engineering and innovations partnership.
  • Provide training, and documentation of training, to customers to become self-sustaining.
  • Utilize a standard audit checklist and will allow for comments, observations, etc; document what was observed on a customer’s line with escalation for recurring unresolved issues which pose a claims risk to Ball; the line audit will serrve as primary vehicle to communicate what work is needed to 3rd party or to the customer directly.
  • Coordinate site visits with customers and technicians responsible for maintenance.
  • Act as key commercial point of contact for customers online qualification; work independently and with cross-functional teams to solve challenges and overcome barriers to qualification.
  • Provide the interface between the quality assurance staff, plants, and customer/equipment support through customer line expertise recommending improvements that may be needed in the customers line or with Ball provided product.
  • Provide/document competitive intelligence and customer insights to the commercial organization and CTS Managers.
  • Acts as a technical advisor or consultant to Ball’s customers providing support services including equipment problem resolution and coordination with customer technical team and/or third parties.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction by advising customers on preventative maintenance and configurations that may favorably impact performance.
  • Maintain time records for customer service charges to ensure advisor business remains financially viable.

What Are We Looking For?

  • HS Diploma or equivalent, with a preference toward a Bachelor’s degree in engineering or technical trade school.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience high speed precision manufacturing equipment engineering, maintenance, and process improvement with preference in beverage/filling operations preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience customer technical service and support preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience managing relationships directly with customers in high stress situations due to large financial claims, contractual disputes, customer business impacts preferred.
  • Demonstrated Skills in the following:
    • independently and proactively find root causes and develop long term fixes.
    • ability to communicate with diverse personnel within customer filling locations from front line employee to plant manager on behalf of Ball.
    • manufacturing processes, equipment troubleshooting, and team dynamics.
    • analyzing data and identifying trends, root causes of issues, and areas for improvement.
    • supplier interaction in high stress situations exhibiting high emotional intelligence.
  • Working Knowledge of :
    • Ability to perform mathematical and engineering calculations and understand engineering principles, and practical application thereof in the manufacturing environment preferred.
    • Customer filling lines, equipment, and filler plant operations and org design preferred.
    • Apply standard evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation and modification of standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria as it relates to customer equipment as an expert on behalf of Ball preferred.

Compensation & Benefits

- Hiring Salary Range: $ 83,200 - 124,660 (Salary to be determined by the applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.)
