Primary Purpose of the Position:

The Director, Metal & ODM Procurement, will manage the critical inbound supply chain for all our ODM and Metal for the North & Central America business. They will work with our suppliers to make sure that we meet our supply plan, flexing as production and demand move up and down. They will also manage and be accountable for our AOP inputs and quarterly financial plans.

They will provide direction and management for a category management team that consists of Category Managers, Buyers and Analysts that manage, analyze, and buy, goods and services. This role will also own the category management lifecycle process, including development, implementation, and execution of the detailed category management strategy, identification of opportunities, definition of the annual goals, and will be the primary ownership of the management of the supplier relationship process. This role will also work closely with their global counterparts to provide input into global category strategies and ensure that those global strategies are executed to the benefit of the company.

This role’s specific category responsibilities include: metal, coatings, sprays, inks, front end chemicals. The role will also be de-facto deputy to the regional Head of Procurement across all categories, as well as enabling Ball’s climate transition plan through adherence to our low carbon commitment.

What Are You Responsible For?

  • Provides direction and management support for a regional category management team, including setting strategy and goals and ensuring that the team is working toward achievement of those goals.
  • Inputs NCA perspective on category strategy to Global Metal & ODM teams with particular emphasis on key customer sustainability plays on metal (recycled content, low carbon) and ODM (materials of concern)
  • Build relationships with each of our key suppliers in this space, including at the levels of both senior leadership and operations. Implement and own business continuity plans for each supplier.
  • Leads the category management lifecycle process, including gathering, analyzing, and reporting on key market intelligence, developing a long-term, development of a multi-year category strategy and evaluation of go-to-market strategies.
  • Leverages diverse sources of market intelligence and data to make data-informed decisions.
  • Develops a comprehensive view of the balance between supply and demand and actively monitors market conditions for the team’s categories on an ongoing basis in order to make informed decisions.
  • Develops and evaluates go-to-market strategies for regional categories and achieves creative commercial outcomes through negotiation planning and successful execution by directing cross functional teams of stakeholders.
  • Able to work across business units and engage with global category teams and leadership to facilitate positive outcomes for the organization.
  • Develops and manages supplier performance management process for all major suppliers, taking a leadership role where necessary and supporting the team as needed.
  • Proactively reports progress against KPIs and other metrics.
  • Work with key stakeholders such as the Regional Head of Procurement Execution, Regional BU President, supplier key contacts, key functional leaders (Commercial, Operations, Engineering, Finance, IT), regional and global category teams, Supply Chain Execution and Metal Planning.

What Are We Looking For?

  • Bachelor's degree with Master's degree or advanced certification preferred
  • A minimum of eight (8) years of progressively increasing responsibility in Sourcing, Category Management, Supply Chain Management, Management Consulting, or business-related operations in a global environment.
  • Experience with managing teams and leading through change management
  • Demonstrated ability to drive high stakes negotiations is required
  • This role is the back-up role to the Regional Head of Procurement Execution and will need to attend ELT meetings, regional strategy sessions, and help “run the business” as required
  • Strong people leadership skills and a demonstrated strength and ability to organize and lead dynamic and cohesive teams
  • Deep understanding of category management, strategic sourcing, and supplier relationship management principles and application
  • Demonstrated financial business acumen.
  • Strategic orientation, inquisitive, comfortable with ambiguity, and self-motivated to identify trends and improvement opportunities aligned with business objectives and strategic plans
  • this role will need to be customer facing when needed
  • Ability to build effective relationships, influence peers and key stakeholders, and build consensus
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to tailor messages to the given audience, present information in a clear and concise manner
  • Strong problem solving, analytical and presentation skills
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint skills is highly desired
  • Knowledge of current principles, practices, and methods pertaining to procurement Knowledge of analytics and market research methods Knowledge of advanced negotiation tactics

Compensation & Benefits:

  • This role is based in Colorado, and requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site for four (4) or more days per work week (with core collaboration days of Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday). Travel and local commute between Ball locations and other possible non-Ball locations may be required.
  • Hiring Salary Range: $ 123,000 - 191,245 (Salary to be determined by the applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.)
  • This role will be eligible to participate in the annual incentive compensation plan.
