Engineer II – Mission Operations Systems Engineer

We’re seeking a self-motivated systems engineer to join our Mission Readiness and Commissioning team. Our systems engineer work across the lifecycle (requirements, design, analysis, test and operations) to support operations of spacecraft and their payloads for commercial, DoD, and NASA customers. Our team and products may support a variety of activities including:
- Spacecraft launch, initialization, checkout, and calibration
- Command and control of the spacecraft
- Monitoring the health and safety of the spacecraft subsystems, payloads, and ground system
- Mission data collection, distribution, and analysis
What You’ll Do:
- Support the management of mission operations requirements – decomposition, allocation, verification, and validation.
- Develop, test, and validate mission operations products, timelines, and tools. This may include command execution scripts, alarm limit management, mission system constraints, operator procedures, and/or operator training material.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts to develop operational command products, training material, and tools for operations.
- Contribute to the planning and successful execution of rehearsals, test events, launch, commissioning, and early operations; track technical progress associated with the effort.
- Support verification and validation of mission operations requirements and products through unit, system, and enterprise tests.
- Prepare and/or present technical content to peers/management/customers.
- Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
- Perform other duties as necessary.
What You’ll Need:
- BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 5 or more years related experience.
- Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master’s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
- A current, active TS/SCI security clearance is required.
- Experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Mission operations
- Spacecraft commissioning
- Mission management, command and control
- Mission data processing
- Ground systems
- Ground terminals and infrastructure
- Mission integration including operations readiness activities, rehearsals, and launch support activities
- Training of satellite operators
- Experience in systems engineering roles and functions such as operations concept development, requirements management, functional analysis, interface definition and control, synthesis, and/or verification and validation.
- Effective communication skills.
- Ability to interface with technicians, peers, senior-level engineers, business development, management.
- Ability to contribute to the success of small teams through excellent teamwork.
- Preferred skills/experience:
- Experience developing mission operations products such as command execution scripts, alarm limits, mission system constraints, operator procedures, and operator training material.
- Experience developing SEMP, specifications, ICDs, architecture, use cases, and other ground CDRLs and artifacts.
- Experience in related disciplines such as software engineering, hardware engineering, integration, test engineering, quality engineering, configuration/data management.
- Knowledge of cloud development environments.
- Knowledge of requirements management tool such as DOORS.
- Knowledge of Atlassian Tools such as Confluence and Jira.
On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site five days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between Ball campuses and other possible non-Ball locations may be required.

Verification that your current security clearance or government customer access meets the requirement for this position will be required.

Compensation & Benefits:
- HIRING SALARY RANGE: $111,000 - $137,500 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
