Engineer Associate – Embedded Software

 

We are looking to expand our team with a talented and energetic software engineer focused on delivering high-quality, high-reliability embedded software. This position consists of working on a tightly integrated team supporting a broad portfolio of cutting-edge products including spacecraft, space-based instruments, and tactical systems using modern DevSecOps toolchains including containerization and continuous integration / continuous test. Technology areas include real-time embedded systems, Linux, Docker, Gitlab, cybersecurity, C/C++, Python, and Ruby, among others.

 

What You’ll Do:

 

  • Support multiple types of software development including embedded, test, kernel, and application software for space-based and tactical systems.
  • Leverage and improve DevSecOps toolchains to respond to evolving cybersecurity requirements and increase efficiency through continuous integration testing.
  • Perform full software life cycle functions including requirements, architecture, design, code, test, integration, documentation, and support.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

 

What You’ll Need:

 

  • BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required.
  • Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master’s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
  • A current, active Secret security clearance is required.
  • Experience with designing, developing, and testing software using programming languages such as C, C++, Rust, or Ada.
  • Understanding of embedded / real-time operating systems such as Linux, or VxWorks.
  • Familiarity with containerization technologies (e.g. Docker) and microservice-based architectures.
  • Exposure in developing test, simulation, or data processing applications in high-level languages such as Python, Ruby, or MATLAB.
  • A working knowledge of waterfall and/or Agile lifecycles and activities in each phase.
  • Exposure to formal software development practices including the use of software configuration management, coding standards, and style guides.
  • Knowledge of cybersecure coding practices preferred.
  • Familiarity with DevOps toolchains and continuous integration practices (e.g., Gitlab, Jenkins) preferred. 

 

On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site five days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between Ball campuses and other possible non-Ball locations may be required.

  • Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or cleanroom, outdoors or remote research environment.
  • May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required.
  • May access other facilities in various weather conditions.

 

Verification that your current security clearance or government customer access meets the requirement for this position will be required.

 

Relocation for this position is not available.

 

Compensation & Benefits:

 

  • HIRING SALARY RANGE: $75,500 - $93,750 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
