We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineering Associate Manager who is fueled by problem-solving, continuously curious, and driven to understand our world, science/technology, and life itself, for the benefit of all on Earth and beyond.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Product design and development:
Produce all engineering deliverables, ensuring their relevance, timely delivery, and quality as required to support multiple projects,
Own their team’s engineering performance key metrics, establish and / or maintain them to identify risks and opportunities, inform their organization and act in the direction agreed,
Participate in establishing the technological roadmap relevant to their organization and bring business critical innovations to an appropriate technology readiness level for Axiom projects.
People and team management:
Act as the direct line manager for a team of mechanical engineers conducting regular performance evaluations, providing guidance and mentorship, maintaining team moral and adhesion to Axiom Space values and culture,
Aiding in conflict resolution and removal of personnel impediments,
Participate in interviews, as applicable, and provide input for interviewing, hiring, and terminating employees.
Organization growth support:
Identify organizational opportunities for improvement, and work with their management in removing organizational impediments and developing mechanical engineering processes, best practices capitalization within the department in accordance with the company’s Quality Management System.
Perform additional job duties as assigned.

Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in STEM required with a major in aerospace, mechanical engineering preferred
Minimum of 15 years’ experience in mechanical or aeronautical engineering field
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in supervising an engineering team
Expertise required in at least one of the following: Product life cycle and functional safety, fundamentals of physics, material science, functional dimensioning and tolerancing, technologies and manufacturing processes, building quality and safety through product development processes
Experience with SOLIDWORKS 3D modeling software or similar computer aided design tool, PDM software such as SolidWorks Product Data Management (PDM) or similar, a stress analysis software such as ANSYS,
Spaceflight hardware design background preferred
Experience with Atlassian suite preferred
Essential Functions
Work Environment: Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on the task.
Requirements
Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.
Management has the prerogative to select at any level for which the position is advertised.
Proof of U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Residency is a requirement for this position.
Physical Requirements
Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of the time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of the time).
